Knackered from the heat

I am absolutely glorying in the nice weather after the shite never-ending winter we've had. However today I'm really jiggered from a day in the sun.

I spent the day out with my toddler from 11-3. I know, the worst part of the day to be out in the sun, but we had a slow morning getting out. Both of us well covered, sun hat on him and suncream on both of us. Made sure to reapply the factor 50 regularly because I burn badly. We took a break in the shade for a picnic lunch. Drank lots of water.

But still I've had to take painkillers for this raging heat-induced headache. I'm not cut out for this sunshine.

Anyone else struggle?

Knew you were in Scotland when you said jiggered! That was a word my dad used, so it made me smile.

Funnily enough, I've heard the word jiggered in England too. So, I don't think it's exclusively a Scottish expression. I must look it up!

Yes it was a lovely 24 degrees ish here in the west of scotland, almost as hot as it gets! And sunny all day. We are just not built for it, that's what it is!

Also knew you were in Scotland. It's bloody roasting. I know it's "only" 24 where I am, and I've coped for much longer periods of much hotter abroad before but I think it's the shock to the system after such a dismal winter and spring up here. I cannot cool down at all this evening.

Shock to the system is right. Need to ease myself in to it more. Toddler is knocked out with it. He's in a bare cot and the window is open. We're all knackered.

It's the "taps aff" mentality. I've bitten off more than I can chew.

To be fair, it doesn't get mega hot in Scotland which is why they probs feel it more. When you're used to grey skies 25 is actually well hot

Ah - you're a Scot, that explains it - you should have known better than to go out in the sun without your survival suit - didn't you heed the government warnings?

Hope you're not looking/feeling too peely-wally now...

🙂

I am a fair red haired Welsh Celt in the SW of England.

25 is my absolute max temp, I'm a sweaty, uncomfortable mess all day and if night time is above 12, I hate it.

My sympathies OP.

I agree. Though to be fair to the PPs it's nothing like that hot in most of the country at the moment, so they were probably initially thought the OP was in similar temperatures to them. I realised she wasn't where I am, as it's much cooler here. But, initially assumed London, as it's been early 20s there. I didn't realise it was 25°C anywhere!
Out of curiosity, how come it's so much hotter in Scotland than way down south? It's often the other way round. Is it gulf stream related?

TryingToSeeTheFunnySide · 18/05/2024 06:34

Hope you can stay cool today OP 😊

We get our share of the heat. Last week (or week before, I can't remember) there were days approaching 30. We were out nearly the whole day in it, taking plenty of shade and I felt fine. I wonder if a PP is right about UV levels.

Woken up today and husband is sick and toddler too so maybe it's not the heat and I've got a squirrly feeling from whatever bug they have 🤷🏻‍♀️
