New kitchen colour regret

If you installed a coloured kitchen instead of white or oak do you regret it? I like the blues, greens and dare I say it dusty pink but I don’t want to regret it in a years time. Got to make a decision by 9am Tuesday, my head is saying different to my heart!

I have a sage green and I really like it. I also quite like the dark inky blue colour ones.

LividPink · 17/05/2024 19:52

I painted mine pink when I moved in.

Not sure I would’ve spent £20k on it cos would’ve felt I had to play safe. But I love it and could just paint it again if I wanted to.

Also: so fucking done with the navy kitchens. Get what you love.

BeyondMyWits · 17/05/2024 19:58

We have pewter/grey colour. It has been "fashionable" 6 times now since 1970 when it was fitted (we bought in 93) . Needs new worktops, but cupboards going strong at 54 years old.

Would say whatever colour you choose, choose quality carcasses... then you can change the doors whenever you like.

YouveGotAFastCar · 17/05/2024 19:59

We’re going dark grey. We both love it, it suits the space, it’s being fitted in two weeks and I can’t wait.

Theothername · 17/05/2024 20:03

I love things passionately until I can’t stand them suddenly. So for me a neutral kitchen is a better choice, and I can easily paint walls, or use pops of colour and change on a whim.

I did regret not getting a duck egg kitchen, then a deep blue, and now I’m regretting not getting sage green 😂

RainbowSlidders · 17/05/2024 20:03

Interesting that nobody regrets it, we were flooded and this is an insurance claim so need to get it right.

Sage green here (which is fairly neutral really). I was dead set on it for a couple of years before, and nearly 5 years on I still love it.

Pollipops1 · 17/05/2024 20:06

Well neutrals are back in kitchen wise now.

Stainglasses · 17/05/2024 20:08

Choose a colour that you like, I find this remains consistent regardless of fashions actually

SquashPenguin · 17/05/2024 20:08

Nope I still love our dark blue kitchen. We like dark colours in general and use them a lot in our house, so still very much in keeping!

WuTangGran · 17/05/2024 20:11

Is there a colour called “regret”?
id never buy a house with a dominant colour that would cost thousands to replace.

KlendreaNubris · 17/05/2024 20:14

Mine was installed 11 years ago and now I just want a new colour. The kitchen looks pristine, options for us, have the doors wrapped, lots of companies offer this, replace the doors, again lots of companies offer this or paint it myself and I am going to attempt option 3 but I have had many years of practise decorating.

What I will tell you is that I have no regrets over the original colour and just became bored of it in the last year. It is dark grey and I am going sage green.

Go for the colour you want now, enjoy it for as long as you can.

Jessforless · 17/05/2024 20:14

I’m going for a neutral with a coloured island which will be easier to replace. Absolutely love it and feel at peace with the compromise!

DisforDarkChocolate · 17/05/2024 20:16

Mine is a soft sage green and it's nice, if I was buying a new one it would be pink.

PorkPieForStarters · 17/05/2024 20:18

Mine is a soft pale-ish grey. I'm indifferent to it but it's now out of warranty so could paint it if I really cared and had a burning desire for a different colour. My walls are painted quite a statement colour and I notice that before the units anyway, so I quite like that they're neutral.

The one thing I do regret is the style of them. I got those sleek, handleless doors (with push to close fittings - never get these, it always me a good three attempts to open or close!) but I live in an older house and wish I'd got something a bit more sympathetic to the building, like shaker style.

Autumn1990 · 17/05/2024 20:18

I have the navy/dark inky blue shade and I love it. Only recently fitted. I am really pleased I went for the slightly more expensive wood grain finish rather than the flat Matt one. I was going to go for flat Matt until she pulled the sample out in the show room and it was covered in fingerprints. I would have regretted that.
I do realise navy will be the kitchen equivalent of the avocado bathroom in a few years time.

PorkPieForStarters · 17/05/2024 20:22

If it's a colour you really like and you're not following a trend, you'll enjoy it and make it fit with your other decor because you likely have other decorations in that colour.

AthenaWhite · 17/05/2024 20:25

I love my kitchen colour, bottle green. The worktop and splashback are copper tones. Gives me so much joy. I have always liked dark colours and green is my favourite colour. Go with what you love.

AGodawfulsmallaffair · 17/05/2024 20:26

I have a very dark blue kitchen, I really love it but it shows every single teeny mark..

I think this nails it. Forget about fashion, if you like it, go for it.

Isseywith3witchycats · 17/05/2024 20:31

pale blue gloss units with dark grey tiles and marble look worktops here and three years later i still love it
