Dental Floss Recommendations?

Dentist told me I need to floss more ( I never floss!) so I wondered if they’re all pretty much of a muchness or if there are some better than others.

I use tepe brushes and then whatever floss is on offer!

It depends on your teeth. Mine are v tightly spaced so I have to use dental tape rather than floss.

Keepingongoing · 17/05/2024 12:54

I floss every day and have grown to love the feeling of brushed and flossed teeth!

I much prefer tepe brushes, but also use floss picks for the tighter spaces. They are much easier than floss or tape which I found fiddly and sometimes exacerbated little cuts I get on my fingers.

Tepes come in several sizes and you probably want the size that is a snug fit between your teeth. I think they do an assortment pack so you can find your size.

Many of the common brands contain forever chemicals, PFAs!

Avoid these brands like the plague!

Shocked me to find out.

There's a brand that doesn't that I think is made of plant materials I got it in superdrug and it's fine.

I think you should use both floss and tepes because floss reaches where tepe brushes don't - so both need using.

Tests find PFAS abundant in some dental floss

A study by EHN.org and Mamavation found evidence of PFAS, 'the forever chemical,' in 13 of 39 brands

I much prefer interdental brushes to floss.

you’d still need to find a brand you like.

i use wisdom but only because I get them cheap at savers so haven’t used other brands

yarnwitch · 17/05/2024 15:43

Oral B Pro Expert Premium is very good. Or Savers do a cheap one for £1 which expands between your teeth and it's really good. Quite often sold out though.
I can't get even the smallest interdental brushes between my teeth, something to consider before buying.

Bluevelvetsofa · 17/05/2024 16:02

My hygienist recommends interdental brushes and single tuft brushes.

I like the tepe brushed and the tepe ruler picks are great

Or try a water flosser they are great too!

Waterpik is the brand but loads of dupes on Amazon

I use Oral B Essential Floss. I've tried others but always go back to Oral B. Some of my teeth are very close together and this floss doesn't shred as easily as others.

If space between your teeth isn't a problem then you can probably use any.
