Upcoming maternity leave driving me mad n

Baby due end Aug, annual leave runs April to April.

Maternity leave starting mid Aug. Would have taken 9 days AL (booked days, not bank holiday) by then.

Annual leave allowance 28 inc bank holidays.

Work saying I will only have 2.5 days to carry over into 2025 due to ‘Xmas company closure’ which I think is wrong.

Can someone clarify where I stand with this? I thought I accrue as normal whilst off and they can’t make me take holiday whilst I am off. I’d like to know the exact days I will carry into 2025 and what I will have at the end of March, I think it’s 11 inc bank holidays.

I’m local government and they’ve said the same. My maternity leave will straddle two annual leave years and I’m only allowed to carry over three days from one year to the next. My solution is to take all of my a/l from the first year, directly before I go off on maternity, then the leave accrued in the second year I’ll take directly after my maternity leave.

For what it’s worth, I don’t think it’s right/legal, but I simply couldn’t get HR or my manager to understand where I was coming from. The email tennis was stressing me out. So I had no option but to acquiesce.

@LemonSpring mine wouldn't let me take an extra week before annual leave as I wouldn't have accrued enough so I'm not really sure what to do.

I thought the law was we're entitled to carry up to 1 years worth statutory leave over into the following calendar year!
