Contact from an adoption agency

My dd has been contacted by an adoption agency to tell her that she has 2 siblings who were adopted. We're all a bit shocked but not surprised as her dad was a heavy drinker, abusive, was seeing lots of different women at the same time etc etc
My dd has another 2 siblings who her dad had before I met him and they see each other regularly. This woman didn't know about these 2 siblings.

This woman knew about things that have happened to her dad fairly recently , knew about the domestic violence etc.
My question is , how would she have got hold of my dd's phone number and how would she have known she was his next of kin if he wasn't on the birth certificate?

If someone has given out my daughter's phone number, is that not a GDPR breach.?

She called her from a mobile number if that's at all relevant. I'm just a bit wary.

The most likely scenario is that it is an intermediary service acting on behalf of the adopted siblings. They trace birth relatives at the adopted person's request to explore whether they are open to some form of contact. It's not a GDPR breach, it's actually more like the opposite: the intermediary isn't allowed to share your daughter's details with the adopted siblings, it's a way of protecting her identity whilst exploring her wishes.

There are lots of ways the intermediary could have got the information, the most obvious option is that it came from your ex, if the adopted siblings are exploring contact they would likely have requested intermediary contact with him too? Does he know your daughter's phone number?

My daughter father is severely brain damaged and non verbal, he's in a care home so they couldn't have got any information from him.

That sounds heavy @Adoptioncontact . Any wider paternal family? What makes you suspicious about it all?

I'm wondering how they got hold of my daughter's phone number.

And how they knew about her dad's accident.

If the adopted siblings paid a tracing agency they are basically like private detectives (or at least they can be). It's really not that hard to find people even in the absence of official records.

The woman said she was from the Post Adoption Team. It probably is legitimate but we couldn't understand why she didn't know about the other 2 siblings and how she knew about what happened to dd's dad .

I'm adopted. As far as I understand, this is flat out wrong. Your daughter would have had to register her details as well to accept contact. If my birth family contacted me out of the blue I would be fucking livid.

Post Adoption Team could be Social Care, how old are the children? Even if the adoption was handled by an agency, likelihood is that the children were taken into care due to safeguarding concerns prior to this.

Statutory agencies can work together to track people down.

@longdistanceclaraclara Sorry ,I haven't explained myself very well . My dd isn't adopted, her father apparently has had other children who were adopted and it's one of these who is trying to trace their biological family.

@Stealthmodeactivated they are young adults. Both adopted by different families.
