Posting in chat for traffic/quick replies - deliberately vague whether M/F here 😁. You may be settling a healthy debate also ....

What precisely would you advise teens wear to such an interview?

TIA

I wore my best ralph lauren polo shirt and my school trousers to mine. Then knocked a ceiling tile out demonstrating a mop in a group task. Good times. No idea what the youth of today would go for but good luck to your DC!

Probably school skirt/ trousers and a polo shirt or a plain t shirt. If it's a girl.maybe not a short skirt.

Something smart and tidy, eg school trousers and school shirt, unbuttoned, no tie.
Waitrose assistants are unfailingly polite and helpful, eg they take you to the product if needed rather than vaguely saying aisle 9.

DS wore black school trousers and white school shirt.
He was concerned about the interview team tasks, but no other candidate turned up so he didn’t have to do that

I wore very smart blouse and skirt when I had my Waitrose interview (many many moons ago) and got the job. I think the smarter the better so they know you're keen to make a good impression.

School trousers and shirt/polo shirt are fine, if they get the job they’ll be wearing uniform anyway. Clean hands and nails and brushed hair (definitely).

Remember they’re a team player and are happy to train on all depts ie tills, cafe, welcome desk as well as shop floor.

If it’s not a new store they’ll probably have an individual interview with a member of the store management - there isn’t usually tasks involved in these type of interviews

For a similar job, DS (16) wore mid-grey Primark chinos and a light blue linen shirt (sleeves rolled up to elbow - it was the only way I could persuade him to don a shirt) and smart trainers. He got the job!

Shirt and trousers/ skirt. Hair neat. Be polite and smile.

Thankyou. She's going to wear her 6th form suit but has bought new shoes for the occasion. Fingers crossed for next week.
