So n=1 gives 45 - (5 x 1) = 40
N= 2 is 45 - (5 x 2) = 35

work out the difference between terms: -5. So it will be -5n. Then work out the difference from -5 to the first term in the sequence (40) = 45. So it will be -5n + 45, which is better written as 45-5n.

I cheated and Googled it and got 50 - 5n
maybe cheating doesn’t work 😳

The first term, n=1. If you substitute that in to 50 - 5n, you get 45, not 40. Second term n=2. Again substitute that in to 50-5n and you get 40, not 35.
