Royal Mail lost my child’s birth certificate

Hey all, Royal Mail lost my D’s birth certificate back in 2022 when I applied for her passport. I received the passport but not her supporting documents back.
Neither the passport office or Royal Mail are taking responsibility for losing this even though at the time there was no option for tracking the document. I presume due to the back log at the time.
it’s been 2 years and I still feel awful that this has been lost and think about it often! Is it possible if it was “lost” somewhere it could still be found in a sorting office and sent back to me?

I doubt it will turn up now. Are you worried about it being used fraudulently? I guess a 2 year old’s doesn’t have that many ways you can use it, at least.

You’ve replaced it by now?

A replacement birth certificate is about £12. Maybe just do that as it’ll cost way more to fight for the lost one. Plus they will never find it now.

Did you mean the birth certificate had sentimental value? I do appreciate that because the passport office lost the lovely envelope my marriage certificate came in (it was fancy and stamped from Gretna Green so that’s why it was special) But there’s nothing I can do about it. My marriage is my marriage and your little boy is your little boy without the need for material items.

It’s not so much as sentimental but I keep thinking a fraudster has taken it to use in the future as you said there isn’t much they could do with a 2 year olds birth certificate.
I was able to replace it around a year ago. Does requesting a replacement with GRO class as reporting it lost so someone couldn’t use this for fraud?

This happened to me only it was my birth certificate. I just ordered a new one off GRO.
