Just woke up to a spider on my face and now I may never sleep again

Just that really.

Woke up to a tickling on my chin, instinctively grabbed it and it THUDDED onto the floor. Switched the light on and it’s a spider.

I have a horrible fear of them and now I’m laid here in the dark, horrified.

Sleep deprivation is worse than spiders. I was awake for about 40 hours once and started hallucinating all sorts of creepy crawlies, not just spiders. I could see them and feel them running all over me. So, out of the two options, sleep is better.

I get your horror though. Decades ago I fell asleep with my face on the edge of a sofa cushion. I woke up as a massive wolf spider was climbing up from the floor towards me and was literally inches away from my eye.

I leapt up SO fast. I'm not even particularly arachnophobic but I still feel a frisson of fear and revulsion when I remember it.

Anyway I am probably not helping

[ she says merrily as she trundles off to bed 😳 ].

Sorry!

Why is it always spiders, Lauder? I've no fear of them at all (well, not British ones), but at some point into the third night without sleep, off go the illusory spiders, scooting about everywhere.

I did once wake up to a real centipede on my arm, though.

And back when my daddy-long-legs/crane fly phobia was at its worst, I was lying in bed with the little bed light on, and a DLL not only flew right at my face as they seem to love doing, I felt its LEG DRAG ACROSS THE SURFACE OF MY EYEBALL. My mental state at that moment was probably very much like yours right now, OP. All my sympathies to you. Flowers
