Anyone know what this means? Results from blood test - specifically renal results

Had routine blood tests this morning and one result has come back already on the NHS app - the app is both a blessing and a curse for someone who suffers with health anxiety. It tested a few things including repeat of Cholesterol and sugar levels but I will try and attach the renal/kidney result I’ve got already.

anyone know what this means?

I can see why you're worrying - the layout of the wording is odd. It's actually saying renal dysfunction is unlikely, but spaced over two lines presumably just to induce panic or something..

You're in the normal range. Take that one off your worry list.

Greater than 90ml/min is perfect. It doesn’t get any better than that.

When I first got app and could see my historical results, I saw that i had had almost exactly the same GFR results as this a few years earlier. 90 or low 90s. Never mentioned by doc (as still in normal range) but I could also see that in all subsequent tests, the results were all higher and more clearly in normal range.

I look at bloods, we don’t see higher than 90 so yes it’s as good as can be but agree the wording makes it seem like it’s early kidney failure!

My urologist told me your level of hydration at the time of the blood test can affect kidney function by 10 points or more. Your score is excellent.

That's basically a test for whether you are drinking enough water. You could drink more fluids if you are feeling keen, but equally you are absolutely fine not to.

I read a comedy article by a GP recently saying that he spends much of his time these days explaining to patients that their kidney results are fine. I think these tests are cauing a lot of people to wonder what is going on and we're basically all fine. It's keeping the GPs busy though.

Um your kidney function is in part related to how much water you drink but by far and away not the only factor. I have never seen a lab report that doesn’t just say >90 tbf. If I got a result back of 99999 I’d probably call the lab to check what on Earth they meant!!

If you’re at 90 don’t massively increase your water intake it can have much bigger effects which aren’t great!

I do generally drink a lot anyway, anymore water I’d be weeing a lot more than I do already so not planning to increase 😂

the result says eGFR is >90, ie. it's greater than 90 - the result could be higher than 90, but the lab just doesn't report it that way. In the absence of anything else suggestive of kidney disease or anything that might make the results less reliable then a GFR >90 is completely normal. As with most things though it does need to be interpreted in context and with the rest of the U&E and medical history. It's not 'basically a test to see if you're drinking enough water'!
