Hair colour advice

Hi all,

I had my hair coloured 9 days ago. I've never had a vibrant colour done so I don't have a frame of reference!

As it's the first colour I've had the hairdresser said it would fade quicker than subsequent colours but I didn't anticipate it happening this quick!

I'm not booked in again for another 6 weeks but I'll be down to the blonde in a few days at this rate. Some blonde already showing through.

I've washed it twice with Faith in Nature shampoo.

What should I do? Go back to the hairdresser? What would be reasonable to ask for?

It looks like a wash in wash out colour!
Was it supposed to be a permanent/semi permanent colour?

Fun colours often leach from hair v rapidly. I've had deep reds and they are more pink brown within a week. The condition of your hair also influences how quickly your hair retains colour.

It was permanent colour, as far as I'm aware!

As I said, I've not had a colour done like this before so I don't know if I'm reasonable to complain!

I was expecting it to fade and look like this after maybe 5 weeks. Not 10 days! 😫

That does seem to have faded very quickly. I always have my hair some shade of bright red, purple, green etc. None of these colours are permanent, and should not be sold as such. Depending on your hair you should expect to get around 6/12 washes out of them before they are very pale. The first wash will always wash out more than subsequent washing but never to that extent.
If you paid for that I would complain to be honest.

Top tip is to wash with cooler water, as this helps lock the colour in for longer. Some hair types hold on to different pigments better or worse than others. Red tones work best in my hair and I can easily get 3 months out a red dye. Blue tones on the other hand barely last a month.

Bright colours fade quick, get some manic panic hair dye in a colour that matches what you have and add some to your conditioner so you are topping up the colour every time you wash your hair. Leave the conditioner a couple of minutes before rinsing.

Thanks all. 🙂 They're redoing it for me on Friday as I'm now down to the blond almost entirely!

If you want bright that doesn’t fade try Goldwell Elumen. It’s a fantastic product. Not many hairdressers use it but if you can find one that does you won’t be disappointed. You can buy it to do yourself but be prepared to cover your bathroom as it stains. I have too much grey now to do it myself but I did during lockdown. I have a mix of pink and purple but have also been orange and red.
