I can only do housework if I’m wearing headphones

of course I can do housework without wearing headphones, but I procrastinate, get distracted, start one thing and then move on. It’s very stressful getting nothing achieved

but when I wear headphones with a good podcast or audio book on I magically get loads done

is anyone else like this? I’m desperate to put them on and get some stuff done but with 5 year old twins and a dog at home today I’m not sure how likely that will be.

is anyone else like this?

Yes! It started as a bit of a ‘carrot’ to make boring housework a bit more enjoyable. But then I find that I get loads more done and I’m definitely more focused and productive. It’s hard when there are other people in the house though, they interrupt all the time and because I listen directly in my hearing aids via Bluetooth, it’s not immediately obvious that I’m ‘plugged in’ . So that gets annoying.

If that works for you, great, carry on.

If you're worried about not being able to listen out for DC at the same time, you could use an ear bud instead. I use a cheap wireless earbud (only using one at a time) while doing housework, and also while out walking, so it means I can listen to podcasts and also be aware of traffic and other people around me.

Something like this:
