Hi all, I have recently been diagnosed with PCOS after years of looking for answers, my doctor has suggested starting fertility meds specifically metformin/ letrozole. My periods are extremely irregular (eg. Same date each month for 4 months then dosent show up for 4 months etc)
If you have taken either or another fertility medication, what dose & how often did you take it? What were your side affects? And how long did it take to conceive, if you did? Thanks in advance everyone ☺️

I had never ovulated properly in my life before metformin. I was an extreme case of PCOS. No chance of natural conception. Was pregnant within 2 months of taking metformin. Not a single side effect. I kept taking it until I was 12 weeks along.
I have no idea if that is normal and I don’t want to get your hopes up. I tried clomod before for 6 months and had zero success whereas it works wonders for others. Sometimes it is just about finding the right one for you. Good luck!

I conceived my daughter on the first round of letrozole. She’s now 3 and a half. I’m fairly atypical pcos in that I’m not particularly overweight however, the consultant and I were fairly sure that I don’t ovulate regularly. The clinic I went to is called CRGW and they have a few clinics so it might be worth a Google to see if there’s one by you. They were great with us.

@Drfosters Ahh that’s great congratulations. I agree definitely it’s about what works for your own body. One may work wonders for one and not at all for one, many thanks! Just trying to weigh up my options to see which to go forward with .

I was told by a fertility consultant dr that inositol (an OTC supplement) is often preferred by drs over metformin.

Could be worth trying as a first line response (fewer potential side effects)

I started ovulating for the first time ever after starting to take it daily. (Like metformin, it helps with insulin response / blood sugar regulation AIUI)
