This is what I’ve been through this winter as well. One chest infection after the other. Usually I get one every six months or so, but it’s constant this year.
Have you experienced anything like this before?

CarolineFields · 11/05/2024 19:19

can you get a pneomonia vaccination? I got one from boots for about £70 a few years ago. I expect it is more now - but the best money I've ever spent

Been getting them since 2018 maybe one a year but this year it’s constant since last Christmas …like I say the last one I was really poorly because the drs would not prescribe antibiotics it then turned to pneumonia I put in a complaint….I’ve since had blood tests chest ex ray and due another one in 2 weeks ,…..only to have another chest infection starting now ffs it’s really worrying

This is just what’s been happening with me, and i relate to the worry. I had a very bad cold last week and was absolutely terrified that it would turn to pneumonia again. (It didn’t, thankfully.)
Ive also had a chest x ray a blood tests, but no answers yet. I don’t know if it’s me (low immunity for example) or more environmental, as it’s meant to have been a bad winter for viruses in general. Also whooping cough is going around.
I hope you get well soon. Hopefully the better weather will build us up and help us out of this cycle.

honestly guys, try the Boots pneumonia vaccination - its costly, but put a stop to chest infections for me.

Did you have any side effects from it?

user1471453601 · 11/05/2024 21:13

Have you been prescribed stand by antibiotics and steroids? I have asthma and copd as well as having part of a lung removed, so my breathing is compromised, when I'm well (my lung function is 40%)

I start them both as soon as my sputum is (sorry for the tmi) mustard.

It's saved me from many hospital admissions.

No I haven’t but I know I need this …like I said before I had such a massive disagreement with the dr I said I need antibiotics he said no no no lol but it turned to pneumonia so when I call up on Monday as this new chest infection is starting we will see

I’ve had repeated chest infections practically monthly for last 18 months following pneumonia. I’ve had the vaccine, numerous antibiotics and steroids. I’ve been referred for tests and I’m just unlucky. I’m exhausted.

I feel for us all.

Lovinglife57 · 11/05/2024 21:56

Exactly how I feel exhausted and thinking oh no not again …thank you for your reply keep me posted

I had a run of this last year. I had covid in the October which turned into a chest infection. From then on, I got one every 6-8 weeks, more often than not turning into pneumonia and a couple of hospital admissions to treat.
In the end they started doing xrays and noted that while I felt completely better after the chest infection, the xray showed it wasn't fully cleared up. Which is what led to it coming back.
They gave me co-amoxiclav and azithromyacin and it finally got rid of the bastard. I've been totally well since.
I wonder if it's a case of things not entirely resolving, hence the relapse back into it each time?

Wow thank you it makes sense I’m going to question this …I’m guessing though that’s why I’m having a second chest X-ray to see if it’s completely cleared up but clearly not as here we go again

FlakyAquaQuoter · 13/07/2024 09:31

Oh @Louu247 - Sorry to hear you're feeling so poorly. Just seen your other thread and you have covid? I got pneumonia from it too. Bloody awful. Hopefully you're feeling much better soon. In the meantime, do whatever it is you can to get through!

Thank you! Yeah I’m testing negative now for that but caught pneumonia on top of it. Xx
