Have you had the lid down on your car yet?

Picked grandson up from school, he asked me to put the lid down, so we did, it was lovely. So I did the same this morning when shopping.

I've been dithering about selling have looked around a lot but yesterday and today I thought na I'll wait a bit longer.

She's 18 years old, not cost me more than tyres, and a new clutch this year.

This morning. But that wasn’t the first time this year, I have it down whenever it’s dry and sunny even if it’s cold. It makes driving a pleasure rather than a chore.

We're in Wales, it isn't cold and sunny but cold and wet in the autumn, winter and spring here 🙈

What do you drive?DH fancies a BMW 2 series.

I have an MX5 Roadster. Dark blue with tan leather seats. I love it very much even though it has cost me a fortune recently and is an absolute magnet for bad drivers to sail straight into.

My lid is broken and my car mechanic took the fuse out to stop me using it. It's just no fun any more. Angry

Fluffycloudsfloatinginthesky · 11/05/2024 18:03

I can't wait for my children to leave home so I can replace the mx5 I had to sell when I got pregnant. I'm even considering getting one when the oldest has gone to uni.....

justasking111 · 11/05/2024 18:17

Both my friend and my sister have both bought the MX5 and bought again. It's a real love affair. They look like fun but with dogs and grandchildren it's really too small for my needs.

I had an MX5 then stopped it for a Mini ( dogs)
I am in North East Scotland, and the top goes down whenever the sun is out, December or July. I just blast my feet with hot air in the winter.

MG Midget, 1971, it's small 😂

RandomMess · 11/05/2024 18:30

Mine is the mini cabriolet, big engine for a little car. It's nippy, easy to park, bigger than you'd think unlike the original mini.

My husband had an MG roadster when we started dating, which we had to sell when I got pregnant four years later. He's dithered about getting another two seater for high days and holidays, but with his bad knee he thinks they'll be too low.

I'm not brave enough to really drive mine all the time. Bought it just before lockdown, so didn't want to be playful while things were not ok generally. Then lockdown, aging parents, work, teenagers has somehow stumped my thought processes, so getting into a new car where the satnav is so complicated just puts me off. Probably need a driving lesson!!

ZeroFucksGivenToday · 11/05/2024 18:45

Lid down for a two hour drive today including a chunk on motorways. One wasp incident in traffic (bloody things) made me debate selling it, but the rest of the journey was lush. Music on full, loved it.
Ive now realised my arms are sunburnt though.

Mine would jump out if i took the top down, the old one as soon as he smells the sea is desperate to get out.

When we had the MG the dog we had then did leap out because she saw a cat. I was picking gravel out of her forehead that day.

Yes this morning ,really enjoyed it

Hmmmbetterchangethis · 11/05/2024 18:50

Have been this last week. I have a VW Eos with red leather seats.
It’s mainly covered in mud due to the dog, but having the roof down makes me happy 🙂

My sons cars are like star trek bridges. The Audi forever in the garage because some random red light is on. It goes into limp mode.

If I had to buy again it would be second hand, no frills.

Try having a bee in an enclosed car. I'd rather it escaped.

We have a classic car garage nearby Last year I sat in a Morgan, fully restored. Fell in love.

I couldn't reach the pedals 🤭

Thursday was the first day I had my top down - me and my lovely old Mazda MX5
Along the coast in the Scottish Borders and I to Northumberland
I have also thought about selling - but I think one more summer …….

eileandubh · 11/05/2024 19:00

I probably drive lid down in winter more than summer! Heated seats on, woolly hat, fans all directed at any exposed skin...

(BRG MX5, 22 yrs old, cost very little until inevitable complete sill rebuild last year.)

Andnowshesatoddler · 11/05/2024 19:43

@beccy11
Honestly remove your registration plate picture, I deal with a lot of cloned registration plates people find online and the trouble and hassle that can cause.
