Help me find a suitable alcoholic beverage

So, I always used to drink spirits, but it gave me terrible indigestion, so I quit all spirits. Cider bloats me and gives me terrible wind, as do all fizzy mixers. The only drink I seem to get on with is wine, but my god it gets me drunk so quickly. Any ideas on quite a light drink? I love having a drink in the summer.

The obvious answer is wine spritzer or a lower abv wine.
what about beer? Bottle of corona or Peroni?

Peonies12 · 10/05/2024 15:52

Single measure of a spirit with juice? Or wine spritzer/diluted wine? There are some low alcohol wines I've seen in supermarket, probably quite sweet but maybe mix with ice?

Have you tried elderflower cordial a a Mixer?

Pick lower alcohol wines, some reds are 14%, you can get lighter wines more like 6%.

Wine with elderflower cordial and sparkling water

That fairtrade fizzy pink 5% wine the co-op sell, forget what it's called

IGNORE ME I MISSED THE NO FIZZ BIT!

PermanentIyExhaustedPigeon · 10/05/2024 15:53

Oh no fizz, sorry ignore my suggestions!

CornishPorsche · 10/05/2024 15:54

Vodka and orange
Vodka and cranberry
Vodka, lime and soda / water

Lots of cocktails are still drinks rather than carbonated.

Or a long white wine spritzer with soda and ice and use a straw to mix it a lot and remove some of the carbonated water.

You might find clear spirits much less aggressive on your system than dark ones.

That said, amaretto neat on ice is lush.

PermanentIyExhaustedPigeon · 10/05/2024 15:54

Wine with posh still lemonade, Lidl do a nice strawberry lemonade that would be great with white or rosé wine!

Duckinglunacy · 10/05/2024 15:56

I love white wine with elderflower tonic in the summer. I also love a Hugo spritz (elderflower liqueur, Prosecco and soda)

Snowontheroof · 10/05/2024 15:57

Pimms, obviously! You can have your 5-a-day fruit and veg at the same time.

Redlarge · 10/05/2024 15:58

Peach schnapps and cranberry juice. Lower alcohol and not fizzy. X

CheshireCat1 · 10/05/2024 15:58

Guinness, you can add a little blackcurrant if you like.

Thank you all so much! I’ll try out your suggestions. I’ll make it very clear to my Husband this is for experimental purposes only 😆. I’ll report back.

Cheers 🥂

Maybe just drink wine but alternating or alongside water? It sounds like maybe you're just drinking a bit too too fast, if you start with water to quench your thirst maybe you could sip more than glug?Grin

I always drink water when I’m drinking alcohol, but I am quite a quick drinker. Definitely don’t glug wine, but probably take a longer sip than needed lol

I'd suggest some kind of white wine spritzer. There's lots of nice spritzer recipes around now. Particularly like ones with elderflower for an extra refreshing hit.

Do you like Aperol Spritz?

(I'm now annoyed with myself for not putting spritzer ingredients in my online shop)!

trampoline123 · 10/05/2024 18:07

Missed the fizzy mixers too.

I'd just leave the lid off the sparkly water for a few hrs to reduce the fizz. I was going to suggest a white wine and cranberry type drink but I think it would still need some kind of soda water.

Think you're going to have a fun weekend experimenting.

IShouldNotBeSurprised · 10/05/2024 20:39

My current favorite is black cherry vodka in key lime sparkling water. I know you said "no fizz" but over ice and left sitting for a few minutes greatly reduces the fizziness.
