Health scare

I've had some worrying symptoms recently I'm just out the drs and he's sending me for a chest x-ray NOW!

He was trying to stay calm and not panic me but I could tell he was concerned and he was not mucking around re x-ray!

I'm scared, I'm single and while I do have family & friends I don't want to worry them until there's definitely something to worry about.

Anyone been through similar? Anyone happy to chat here with me?

Just feeling so scared and so alone.

I'm in my 50's and have various other health conditions but nothing as serious as this might be. I've generally stayed in ok health in my life until now.

Try not to panic ok. I suspect the x ray is to rule out signs of infection rather than something more sinister. Take care

Therageisreal · 10/05/2024 11:39

Same day x rays are common to look for pneumonia.

ScaredAndFeelingAlone · 10/05/2024 12:35

Thank you for replying and reassuring. X ray people saying results Min couple weeks

Don’t panic. I know it’s easier said than done! My DH got sent for one due to a persistent cough. It turned out to be something gastric - maybe h pylori or similar but something where he was on quite strong antibiotics over a month or two. Sorted it completely. So it might not even be anything to do with your lungs!

ScaredAndFeelingAlone · 10/05/2024 12:53

Yea gp has also prescribed omeprazole.

Symptoms - persistent cough, over 4 months, throat constantly feels like it needs clearing, difficulty swallowing to point of regularly choking when eating, and started yesterday coughing up blood.

Not similar age or been through similar but sending best wishes to you OP. It’s good you reached out to others. It’s very caring of you to not want to worry family but I am sure they would want to support you.

Im not in medicine but I would agree that they want to rule out an infection first rather than anything really sinister x

Hope you are ok OP. Can understand how worried you must feel. Happy to chat . Am also in my 50’s and am starting to get a few health issues. Sending lots of good wishes.

ScaredAndFeelingAlone · 10/05/2024 14:15

Thank you

My family have their own stuff going on, mums a big worrier anyway & elderly so don't wanna stress her out and maybe make her ill. Daughter lives other end of country and would also stress plus she also has her own health issues at mo.

@kerstina sucks getting older eh? I was grand until about 2 years ago now one bloody thing after another!

Yes I always felt reasonably fit and active till I got what I thought was a knee injury this time last year. Now I have pain and stiffness in both legs , losing weight and not great mentally. Feeling my age ! Have you had the X-ray yet ?

ScaredAndFeelingAlone · 20/05/2024 09:38

So after hospital saying results would take at least a fortnight I called gp anyway and they have the results but dr not looked at it yet. I've to call back tomorrow afternoon.

Should I be worried hospital have apparently "rushed" things back to gp?

So worried

I was told blood test results would take two weeks so make GP appointment after that date. Receptionist made appointment sooner as she said test results are always quicker than they say.
Fingers crossed for you.

ScaredAndFeelingAlone · 20/05/2024 09:56

Thank you hard not to worry as symptoms slightly worse but may just be hayfever/asthma acting up

Chest xray is pretty much the first thing they do at a hospital if you go to A&E with any kind of breathing or chest pain. It doesn't pick up embolisms but would pick up any broken or fractured bones or masses. It's a general thing to rule stuff out.
