What was the first sign of arthritis in your cat?

When did you first notice your cat has arthritis?

My cat came home limping a few days ago on his leg that he had an operation on a couple of years ago. He has been to the vet a few times who says nothing seems to be broken, and he IS weight bearing but has a pretty bad limp. He has mostly been lying down at home, not his usual self I think because it must be sore for him when he walks. She said the leg felt a bit swollen and was tender when she touched it but after a few days on meloxicam and antibiotics should be back to his old self. He isn’t back to his old self and he is having an X-ray.

Back in 2022 when he fractured the leg, the vet told me he will very likely develop arthritis at a much younger age than most cats due to the joint that was fractured. Every time he goes to the vets they comment on how stiff the joint is. It has only just dawned on me that this could be the reason for his lameness? I’m not sure though, it just came on all of a sudden. Would arthritis do that? Does this sound like it could be that? Either way I’ll chat to the vet about it, but I can’t sleep right now and can’t switch my brain off and wondered what other peoples experiences were when their cat first got arthritis?

thanks ☺️

Our cat first showed symptoms aged about 10 - limping with no sign of injury, limp changing legs and then looking like all legs were injured. Been taking Loxicom evey day for the last 7 years! Hates the wet and cold as they make it worse and has 'steps' to help getting onto favourite windowsill and high human bed as not so good at jumping anymore. Has a good quality of life (very spoiled), good appetite etc on the medicine. Sees the vet for an annual checkup and she's happy with how he is.
