19.58?

Isn't it saying that a full circle is 4. One person is a quarter circle. 12 would be OOO. It's not an option there, the frequencies don't go high enough. You're just recognising the pattern?

That’s right, O = 4, but I don’t understand what they mean by frequency.

fedupandstuck · 09/05/2024 18:38

As an experiment, could you try putting in the frequency for each row to see which one it thinks is the right answer? Presuming the question should say "find the frequency for (eg) 6 texts sent"? Try that for each amount shown by the pictograms and see if it thinks any of them are correct.

This question must have a bug in it.

It’s definitely not 0 it bounces back as incorrect. Another example of a Q in this pack. Bizarre!

Try 5

It doesn't quite make sense, how is frequency a number of pupils?

Frequency in a statistical sense (rather than a Physics one) means the number of times the thing in the first column happens, eg sending 4 texts.

Here’s an example where frequency is the number of pupils/children.

Edit - this is a bad example. You only know the children owned 4 cats between them. You do know that only 1 child owns a gerbil, though.

How old is the child? If they're about 9 then I'd say it's a simple data handling question. Quarter circle represents 1 child, half is two, three quarters is 3 and full is 4. 12 of 4x3 so three full circles are needed to represent 12.

If the child is about 15, then I have no idea as it can't be that simple 😂

EatCrow · 09/05/2024 18:38

That’s right, O = 4, but I don’t understand what they mean by frequency.

Frequently is how often something happens.

So 5 texts were sent on 10 occasions.

xsquared · 09/05/2024 18:42

It looks like Dr Frost Maths has got a bug at the moment.

I don't like what's happened to the website. It used to be great, but the videos don't show anymore for some reason

Try 5

I’ve asked them to try 5. How did you get to that answer?

I think I agree that there's a fault in the question.

Twiglets1 · 09/05/2024 18:47

I’ve explained above but now I realise that 5 texts were sent on 10 occasions and yuh were asked about 12 occasions- sorry

Twiglets1 · 09/05/2024 18:48

3 circles would represent 12 if that’s an option?

MaySheWillStayRestingInMyArmsAgain · 09/05/2024 18:48

I lost my edit.
Frequency is the number of each animal owned between them by the children.

Xmasbabyxmas · 09/05/2024 18:49

The question is incorrect / not worded properly

MaySheWillStayRestingInMyArmsAgain · 09/05/2024 18:51

I agree with everyone saying there’s a glitch in the program.

I can’t see what the question is trying to ask, though.

MaySheWillStayRestingInMyArmsAgain · 09/05/2024 18:55

The question could ask for the mean, median or modal number of texts sent, which could be a y8 question, but it doesn’t.

EatCrow · 09/05/2024 18:58

I thought that but then didn’t! I’ve seen it as a multiplication and division sum, hence my answer on another post but I think I’m simplifying things.

CornedBeef451 · 09/05/2024 18:58

Three circles.

EatCrow · 09/05/2024 19:00

I got (19.58) so five circles (less a sliver!).

Oblomov24 · 09/05/2024 19:02

Is it 19.58 ?

fedupandstuck · 09/05/2024 19:03

@EatCrow can you explain how you've come to 19.58?

Oblomov24 · 09/05/2024 19:04

4x9
5x10
6x8
7x3
8x10

=235 / 12 = 19.58

Oblomov24 · 09/05/2024 19:05

I still think the q is badly worded.

fedupandstuck · 09/05/2024 19:06

@Oblomov24 I don't understand what method you're using there?

EatCrow · 09/05/2024 19:07

Oblomov24 · 09/05/2024 19:04

4x9
5x10
6x8
7x3
8x10

=235 / 12 = 19.58

@fedupandstuck

Exactly as @Oblomov24 did!
