Help with my mum

My mum is 70. She has always suffered with her bowels. IBS kind of symptoms. For years was either constipated or the runs. She's also had a fear of not being close to toilet because of this. She has had multiple colonoscopies but nothing showed up but her diet is shit and always has been.

She doesn't cook so lives off cafe food, takeaways unless myself of brother cooking for her. She has never been into cooking and can't put a meal together if you know what I mean.

Anyway lately she has been completely incontinant. She is less mobile, takes a while to get to loo then ends up shitting herself. She nearly just accepts it and cleans herself up and goes about her day.

I offered to help her (for the millionth time) with diet and organising herself. And she has finally accepted. I said to just try it for a month and keep a diary and we can see exactly what's happening.

Any advice on meal ideas, foods to avoid. She is a fussy eater, doesn't eat any veg at all but does enjoy some of them

if she wont eat veg that is hard but maybe you can do like you do with kids and hide the veg ie in a blended tomato sauce for pasta with veg in it
i would suggest as she is likely to be unwilling to try what would spring to mind as healthy food it would be an idea to make a list of the cafe and take away food she likes then see if it can be cooked healthier. ie if she likes a cafe fry up breakfast a lot of the meat could be grilled instead, instead of fried eggs maybe poached etc. there are lots of ways to make food healthier online a few changes can make all the difference

Would she have diverticulitis?
