Questions for anyone who has an echo dot kids...

I've ordered a kids version of the echo dot for my son's 6th birthday, mainly because I think he'll enjoy asking it questions and listening to audiobooks. If anyone has one of these, I have a couple of questions, please:

  • I understand that it comes with a 1 year subscription of Amazon kids and that after a year it's £3.99 a month. If you don't continue with the subscription, are all features lost? E.g. ask Alexa, or is it just the audio books and similar content? Basically - is it totally useless without a subscription?
  • can you buy other audio books via audible to play via the echo dot kids? I know it comes with access to a library of audiobooks included with Amazon kids, but if he wanted a specific one that wasn't included, could I do this? Or would he be limited to the Amazon kids catalogue?
  • Could I link it to my audible account to play certain audiobooks? As I already have some audiobooks I've purchased for him on my account.

Thanks!

We’ve got a kids one, not sure about the answer to your first question BUT you can connect your phone via Bluetooth to it and play whatever you like that way (Moshi stories, Audible, Spotify etc)

We play the Harry Potter books through my audible account connected with Bluetooth.

I didn't get the kids one mine just have the regular dots and can use anything in my audible library and also any audible free books using my audible subscription

I have my DC echo dot linked to my audible account. It was an absolute pain to set this part of it up though
