That's it. What would you do? He seems upset about something but won't talk to me

Give them space. Respect their wishes.

Give it a bit and then go back with a drink and a snack.
Is he doing exams?

My 18 year old told me to go away when you asked after him?

I and you should leave him alone for a bit I reckon.

I would go away and come back wordlessly with ice cream or some other treat, then kiss the top of his head and tell him I'm here for him then go away again and hope he comes to me, and when he does I'd listen and not judge.

He is bound to come and tell you later once he has had a chill.

Yes he's doing exams. Yes I've left him be. Still can't help worrying about him though

Could be anything, really, couldn't it? Girlfriend broke up with him, fight with mate. Very likely exam stress.

Give him space to decompress and ask how he's doing later this evening.

Respect his wishes but as you leave say you know where I am if you'd like to chat about anything on your mind.
