Seizure clinic

I had a seizure a few weeks ago. Never happened before. Now I think about it, i possibly have been having absences over a period of time. I’m worried I might be epileptic (but I’m also worried I might not be - in which case, what caused the seizure?)

i have my first fit appointment coming up. Can anyone tell me what to expect? What is it important I ask?

I had a one-off grand mal seizure a few years ago. After, I had an Mri, cat scan, an eeg and thats all I remember. They ruled out a tumor and tried to simulate a seizure. They discovered I reacted to flashing light. But I think you have to have more than one for it to be epilepsy.

I could not drive for a year, had to have a doctor sign off for insurance for 5 and never had another. Flickering lights make me feel unwell and they did before that episode but I have not had a seizure since and that was more than 10 years ago.

Thank you. That’s reassuring. I can’t remember what they did in A&E after my seizure (also grand mal / tonic clonic) I know I had either a CT or an MRI. Not being able to drive is such a pain.

It was awful (the not driving) but I got very fit! I had a ct scan in a&e and the rest of the tests a few weeks later. I convinced myself it was caused by a brain tumour in those few weeks so I suppose the not driving was a small inconvenience to what I had considered might be my future 😳.

It also took me a good while to get over the fear of having another. I was 36 at the time, old for a first seizure but, as I said, it wasn't a complete surprise wrt the flashing lights.

Good luck to you, I hope your outcome will be as straightforward as mine was.
