Accommodation nearish Luton airport

We've an early flight from Luton next month and need to stay over. Anyone been anywhere decent?

I hate the idea of an airport hotel and was hoping for a nice hotel in a little village nearby or somewhere like St Albans.

The only thing I know about Luton is from 24 hours in Police Custody so get the impression it's not that nice for a wander the day before we leave but happy if wrong.

booking.com is your friend

Trouble with staying somewhere not in Luton/ at the airport is traffic. So find somewhere which doesn't necessitate M1.

Hitchin. Pretty little town and v easy to get to the airport by bus or cab

Luton Hoo is worth a wander (and an overnight stay). Otherwise, The Redcoats Hotel near Hitchin.

Old Hunters Lodge in Whipsnade, it’s a pub with rooms but it’s lovely. You could for a look around the zoo the day before. I wouldn’t personally recommend a wander around Luton itself but there’s some pretty places close by

Somewhere on the train line to Luton Airport Parkway. Like OPs have said, Hitchin, Harpenden? as you said St Albans.

Or slightly further out, Milton Keynes? You might have to get a taxi to the airport though. No direct trains but I think there are buses.

The View SG5. Think they are on booking.com. definitely on Facebook and insta. it's a pub with a few cabins in the garden. Popular with people who work in Luton in the week who don't want to stay in a Travelodge. They do food too. Opposite a nature reserve if you've time for a walk. In a small hamlet. About 5 miles from the airport I think.

I’m seconding Redcoats - https://www.farmhouseatredcoats.co.uk/

20 minutes on the back roads to the Long stay car park at Luton.

If that’s a bit pricey, Brocket Arms in Ayot St Lawrence is good value and a proper traditional country pub. Probably about 25 mins away. https://www.brocketarms.com/en-GB

The Farmhouse at Redcoats Hitchin

The Farmhouse at Redcoats, situated in the hamlet of Redcoats Green, Hertfordshire, dates back to the 15th century and boasts 4 acres with stunning views across the rolling Hertfordshire countryside.
