My toenail has fallen off

My big toenail has finally fallen off. It’s been about to happen for a while, and there’s already about half a centimetre of new nail growing. I read somewhere that it can happen if you stubbed your toe, which I don’t even remember doing. It didn’t hurt when it finally came off.

Do I need to do anything in particular? Probably put a padded plaster on it, but do I need to show it to a doctor or anything or can I just let it sort itself out on its own?

Both of mine fell off once (due to wearing trainiers a size too small all day at a festival 😁). Both grew back without any medical intervention and without any issues.

It just grow back/ having lots numerous while marathon running they don’t tend to fall off unless the new nail is there!

You can get a rather fetching toe cover (I called mine the toe condom 🤣) just make sure to air it and keep it clean

Very similar here, except danced till dawn at an all-nighter in tight boots! Likewise grew back fine with no fuss. Happy memories :)

I think some little bits of the underside of the old nail are stuck to my toe skin. Is this a problem?

I would book a sesh with a podiatrist to make sure all debris is removed safely.

This happens to me, I run a lot. They’ve always grown back without any input from me or a doctor/podiatrist.

peppermum60 · 07/05/2024 13:46

This happened to me and I did visit a podiatrist who cleaned it up and fitted a false nail to the new nail which was growing. It helps keep the nail bed open apparently

Both of my big toe nails fell off, after DoE. I spent a summer painting my toes, it was quite grim.

If you don't remember doing anything though I'd maybe get it looked at.

One of mine came off due to walking all day in Converse trainers. Grew back ok. That was about 15'years ago. Now my toenails are shot to pieces as I do a couple of dance classes (ballet and tap). I need to book an appointment with the chiropodist as one of mine looks as though it's going to come off sooner rather than later.
