Anti-slug wool pellets don't work

I bought these petunias 2 weeks ago, and surrounded them with anti-slug wool pellets. The slugs are completely oblivious to the pellets and have munched the petunias to bits. 😭

Did they work for you?

Nope, waste of time IMo

About the only things that ever have worked for me were beer traps and removing by hand of an evening

No last year everything in pots and all the editable plants like pumpkins, herbs etc were completely destroyed. We tried all sorts including a garlic solution. One half of our garden is overrun with snails and the other slugs.

I asked my neighbour what she does about slugs (she has an amazing garden (she's retired). She said she literally goes slug hunting every night and chucks them over the fence across the green.

I spent a chunk of money on a bag of these. Not deployed in earnest. Bugger..

Lidl have copper tape cheap.at the moment.

i've found they work if they make a VERY thick mat.

also get nematodes to cut down the number of slugs

HarridanHarvestingHeldaBeans · 06/05/2024 18:18

I haven't tried pellets, but do use raw wool and it works really well. You have to completely cover the soil though, any gaps will be found.

noraclavicle · 06/05/2024 18:20

Damn! I was counting on the wool pellets. The nematodes were a complete failure!

HelpMeSpendIt · 06/05/2024 18:20

They didn't and neither did copper tape. still looking...
