Help me find a hobby

I feel like I need a hobby (DH has many, and although I don't begrudge him these, I feel like I need something for me too).

But I don't know what to do. I am mid 40s, and overweight, so I really don't want to do anything active based. I do want to lose weight, so I know that seems the obvious activity to help me lose weight, but I'm really not in that mind space at the moment.

I feel like I need to meet people and get out and do something other than what feels like waiting for DH to get back from his hobbies and to stimulate my brain a little (it doesn't have to be super high brow, just something interesting I guess).

I already have a book club but that's only once a month. I'm not a great singer, so choir is out.

Does anyone have any ideas?!

Thanks!

We have a craft group in our town. You can bring along any craft e.g. knitting, drawing, model making, sewing....anything really and we have everyone from beginners to really skilled people. We meet once a month in the pub so you can have a coffee or a drink. The best thing is that you get to see loads of other hobbies, ask people about them and have a go yourself. Could you find something like that which might give you an insight and inspiration?

Just thinking of the hobbies my friends and I do to see if anything might appeal to you - jigsaws, researching local history, looking into their family tree, painting, dolls houses. Instagram is also great inspiration.

@FakingItEasy have you thought about volunteering for a good cause? So many different options. Your local council may have a list, but here are a few ideas:

  • work in a charity shop
  • be a school governor
  • help out at a food bank
  • volunteer at an animal sanctuary
  • be a marshall at a park run
  • become a board member of a local charity
  • be part of a school admissions appeals panel
  • join a local conservation group or 'green gym'
  • befriend struggling mums as a Home Start volunteer
  • volunteer at a local hospital
etc, etc

I’m overweight, size 20 and I love outdoor swimming - although I know you said no activities!
