Any ideas plz? Trying to find a male companion for my mum who was widowed several years ago. She's horrified at using the internet and has loads of women friends but really misses male company. Any ideas? Thanks

Through social / activity groups. Exercise classes, bridge, church etc.

In the magazine for the over fifties-Yours-they have a section for this.

Agree with @Rollercoaster1920 any local groups are a good idea or volunteering (doing local flower beds etc)
Is she fit and/or does she have a dog, can she walk a friends dog? another way to meet people/get chatting

My widowed Dad (86) is on the lookout for a female friend. He did have one (84) but it’s cooled off a bit lately. 🤣

I agree with PP’s, suggest that she gets involved in clubs and social activities.

Move to Cromer.

My aunt met one through a walking group. She'd been single by choice for about 25 years. He moved in during covid so they both had company and he never left!

I was going to say, in answer to your question- with great difficulty! I’m sure there are some nice men of that age( or younger) about!

Billyandharry · 05/05/2024 19:13

@Bignanna there must be some somewhere! Preferably Cheshire.x

Bowls, Bridge, Bingo or maybe voluntary work?

My mum (73) met her new boyfriend (78) on holiday last year. She definitely wasn't on the look out.

My uncle (77) meets all his lady friends at the bowls club. He's never short of offers!

U3A, MeetUp groups, local history groups, gardening groups, volunteering

My late husband’s ex is 86 and with her 4th partner if you include my husband.

She was in her 70s when her boyfriend died. She took to visiting a widowed friend and they moved in together.

He died when they were about 80.

She fairly quickly found another widower, a chap who was a neighbour of a relative.

Basically, she’s very good at looking for opportunities around her and making the first move.
