Help! DS 2 weeks can’t poo

DS is two weeks old, hasn’t had a dirty nappy since yesterday morning, before this he was having a few per day. He seems to be straining with no effect and sounds quite distressed. He’s not off his food. We are formula feeding with some expressed top ups due to issues with his latch.

We’ve tried bicycles, legs up, warm bath, breast milk and a bottle of ready made formula. Is there anything else we can try? At what point does this become a call to the doctor? Aware it’s BH weekend so unlikely to get support from midwife/health visitor.

So it's only been 24 hours without a dirty nappy? In that case I'd try infacol to break up any trapped wind and ease his stomach pain. You might find he can go more easily after that, once he's relaxed.

I've had the same with my 6 week old. First time parent.

We went to paediatrics as our daughter had thrown up a couple of times too.

The doctor told me that it's extremely common, and more often than not nothing to worry about. Suggested we try the "I love you" belly massage, which helped our little one's gas.

However I was told that if there are any issues at all when they're under 6 weeks, they should be seen by a doctor.

Call 111 and they can book you in for an out of hours appointment.
