Need some inspiration, what games do you play with your 12 year olds?

Mostly chess, scrabble and monopoly

FourEyesGood · 04/05/2024 19:24

Catan, Carcassone and Ticket to Ride, mainly (she’s 13 now but has been playing these for a couple of years, with us and her 16yo brother).

Mine really likes Outsmarted, cluedo and we've recently been playing scattogories (sp?). My 13yr old really enjoys ticket to ride. We also like playing trivial pursuit on the switch.

Ingenious and Quirkle are good.

CuntRYMusicStar · 04/05/2024 19:31

Skyjo, Monopoly, cluedo, uno, banagrams sum up, exploding kittens.

Mostly chess, scrabble and monopoly

Same here, we still play those with ds(20) and have never found a game to outlast the old ones.

I know Ticket to Ride is often talked about on here, but we never saw the attraction, played it a few times and found it repetitive.

We also love various card games (sometimes with poker chips), Uno, Draughts, Othello or if there is a crowd charades.

TrappedPotato · 04/05/2024 19:40

Ticket to Ride, Calico and Akropolis.

MissAmbrosia · 04/05/2024 19:43

Scrabble. Cleudo, Monopoly. Uno, Trivial Pursuit (family version), Game of Life. I generally hate board games though so am maybe not very imaginative,

Marblessolveeverything · 04/05/2024 19:46

Exploding kittens, House of Games the favourite is a dvd bullseye "interactive" game

Dinkee is the kids version of Linkee - a shouty general knowledge quiz.
Whoonoo is my 12 yr old's favourite - made by cranium and a really sweet, simple family game. We've played it for years.
Ticket to ride is fab but takes quite a long time.
Azul is brilliant and beautiful, especially if your 12 yr old likes strategy and patterns. It's my favourite (I'm not 12 though).
Family Trivial Pursuit is good because they have a box of 'kids' questions and a box of 'adult's' questions. Bit tricky when you have awkward 16 / 17 yr olds who fall between the two question boxes.
Prime Climb is a great fun way of making them practice their mental math in board-game form!
Monopoly has lots of versions these days - Harry Potter, or Cheats version etc
Beat the parents is a quick one for after dinner. Always raucous in our house, and the kids always win!!
Oh - family version Cards Against Humanity - I find it tiresome but the 12 yr old laughs until she cries.
Chameleon is great but you need a larger number of players to make it really good.

Something fishy

Chocolatebrownieyum · 04/05/2024 19:53

Ticket to ride, Banangrams, Pictionary, Upwords (more forgiving than Scrabble), Herd Mentality (works well with small or large family gatherings). Mine also love Elixir, which is a vintage game from my youth, only available second hand on ebay.

Rumikub is good.
