A long shot here but has anyone managed to reset a suitcase PIN code?
or break into a suitcase?

my mum offered to put the dress in her back and my heels and can’t remember the pin, I am screwed!

Tried the usual suspects first and just worked through methodically

CeeceeBloomingdale · 04/05/2024 18:05

I've done this more than once I'm ashamed to admit. I found it easy to get in though. Try the left hand number from 0-9. Sometimes you will feel it give a little when you get the first correct number then move on to the second then third. Even if you need to do all the numbers it doesn't take that long.

Only if there’s no 0 and you only use each number once without repetition (9x8x7)

if there’s a 0 on the combination and each number can be used more than once it’s 1000.

Gingernaut · 04/05/2024 18:14

Just start at 000 and work your way through the numbers

It will take roughly an hour

Don't ask me how I know this

Gcsunnyside23 · 04/05/2024 18:16

Yeah same as people above have said, just work your way through the combos. Look on the bright side, only 3 numbers not 4

It’s this! And the suitcase can be used without the pin, she has not used it for years and somehow knocked it (she said) or leaned on it and the pin lock activated. Not really sure what she did tbh.
ill try that video that was posted- thank you!

At home so not in a hotel unfortunately and I have a toddler who will want his mummy to put him to bed soon 😂

I think send her out for a mindful walk to think about when she last used the case and what she would have set it to at that point in her life/visualising herself opening the case on that trip. The stress of being in the room with it trying to work it out may be causing a brain block. Send her to go and get a bottle of wine and then at least she can drink that whilst working her way through every number....

If get nowhere, may need to ask the hotel for a butter knife and crowbar.

Good luck, what a nightmare!

TheGreatestSecretAgentInTheWorld · 04/05/2024 18:34

I've cycled through the numbers to unlock ours, and it took less than an hour.

CultOfTheAirFryer · 04/05/2024 18:37

It’s only 1000 options, and you can usually feel when the first number is correct - as a PP says, the resistance on the zips changes - so after that it’s just 100 options.

You could have opened it by now if you had got started cycling through the numbers…

Fire station - ask to use their bolt cutters

Really?

AdaColeman · 04/05/2024 18:48

Take your suitcase to a shop selling Samsonite luggage, they should have a little gizmo that will open the lock.

at 18.30 in a sat night the day before the sunday wedding?

BrendaSmall · 04/05/2024 18:57

Ask on your local facebook groups, if someone has a TSA key you could borrow!

Pity the OP left it until 5:30 on a Saturday night to post her cry for help! But I'm sure your creative mind @loverofalmonds will solve her problem in no time! Or maybe not!

no solving this one

aside from getting hotel handyman to attack it with some tools

loverofalmonds · 04/05/2024 19:01

or we. an just suggest wholly unrealistic suggestions like going to a samsonite shop at 6.30pm on a saturday night, with wedding next day!

did she “leave” it until then

or did she only realise then?

Amx · 04/05/2024 20:03

Stick a pen in the zip and get the dress out.

DeliberatelyDefiant · 04/05/2024 20:08

Sorry OP, no help but I love posts like this

Have a wonderful wedding - this will just become a funny story

been there but with a brief case from a chairty shop

Jinglesomeoftheway · 04/05/2024 20:16

Given there's only 3 numbers - it's 1000 combinations, no more than an hour to work through. Way less time than cutting it open, having to go out and buy a new suitcase etc

listsandbudgets · 04/05/2024 20:42

I've had to do this and as PPs said worked my way through the all the possible combinations. It finally turned out that I'd set one of the numbers in my original code wrongly so instead of 135 it was 136 - such a relief when it finally clicked into place.

Very frustrating for you though OP but you'll get in. 000 001 002 etc. Put some good music on, get a bottle of wine and you'll have that dress out before you know it. Just hope your mum went for a low number rather than a high!!

quizzys · 04/05/2024 20:51

This is why I only use suitcases that don't have combi locks. I'm dangerous with them.

Sharp knife through the zips is the first thing I'd try if it's any use. If that doesn't work, the hotel will get it open. Have a tip ready for the person who saves the day for you.
