Tell me about your pre vacation clean?

We’re going on holiday in half term. The thought of all the preparation I’ll need to do is starting to stress me out.

DH will pack for everyone. It’s the pre vacation clean I just don’t want to do. MIL is coming to feed our cat and as lovely as she is, I hate having people in my home. I feel judged and it is definitely not a show home.

I struggle to keep on top of things because I’m disabled with a disabled child also.

I’ve started a list. What can I take off it?

Change all bedding (day before we leave)

Tidy bedrooms

Mop all floors

Vacuum whole house

Clean bathrooms

Re grout the bathroom (touch up pen)

Do all laundry so the basket is empty (near impossible)

Wash duvets (coverless)

Dust

Clean out all kitchen cupboards

Clean all skirting boards

Clean out the pantry

Empty bins and take to the recycling centre

Sort DC closet and our closet

Have I missed anything? I want to say forget it and embrace the mess but my anxiety will not allow it .

Same. We also change the beds.

Anything more sounds like a lot of unnecessary stress.

I change the beds the day before so they've only been slept in for one night. Dirty pj's go in the the washing basket until our return, they're not smelly.

I try to do my normal weekly clean before I go - ie hoover, wipe surfaces, take bins out, washing up, clean fridge of anything likely to go off .

This wouldn't include cleaning out any cupboards.

If I still had a MIL she would be welcome to clean my skirting boards, dust or regrout the bathroom if they weren't up to standard - but I would hope she wouldn't go in my cupboards .

Mine. Just shove whatever's on the floor into the wardrobe and put the pots away. Although last year I did completely gut out both wardrobes and bin a load of stuff. Then I put everything back in winter and work clothes in one and summer stuff in the other. Everything else was neatly piled inside and chest of drawers tidied out too. Oh and the cabinet the tv sits on was also tidied out. This time I really couldn't be arsed so literally did a couple of loads of washing and left them hung up in the conservatory for the 5 nights I was away. Most of pots put away but a few left on the draining board with a towel chucked over them. Oh and clean bedding on for when I got back home.

My parents were once key holders for some neighbours and had agreed to go in and water their plants whilst they were away. When mum and dad went in they thought the house had been burgled - drawers hanging open/stuff all over the floor etc - and (thankfully) rang the neighbours before they rang the police. No. That was the normal state of the house apparently.
I don’t clean before going away to the extent that the OP Is suggesting, but I do leave things clean and relativity just in case!
