Home printer recommendations please

We’ve been underwhelmed by our last couple of home printers. In spite of good online reviews when we bought them, they haven’t lasted as long as we’d have expected, the last one being just a few years. The last one also wouldn’t print black and white if one of the colour cartridges ran out which was a pain (we checked this out and apparently designed to be that way) and seems to guzzle ink

We’re looking for a 3-in-1 (print/copy/scan).
Home printing only, low volume. Good quality required on occasions but want choice of a lower quality print out when appropriate.

What make/model of printer do you have if you are happy with the quality, how long it’s lasted, ink consumption etc?

Separately, would be interested if anyone has an Epsom EcoTank refillable printer - it’s one we are interested in but unsure about.

Thanks

We have the epsom ET-8550 and it's excellent

Not had it ages and we print a lot of photographic stuff so that was the important quality but it's far superior than anything we have had in the past and ink costs considerably cheaper.

I can recommend the Epsom eco. A bottle of ink is waaaaay better value than a cartridge with a drop of ink at ten times the price.

Thank you for responding. I am quite interested in the Epson. Also happy to hear about other brands/models.

I've been wondering about printers too. My current inkjet is getting temperamental and it costs £40 to replace the cartridges, which dry out because it's used so infrequently! There seems to be so much choice on the market, I don't know where to start looking

Just wondering which printer you got?

We had an Epson eco tank that got clogged nozzles with barely any use. Apparently they recommend printing in colour at least weekly otherwise this can happen. printer is now pretty much useless!

OMGitsnotgood · 24/09/2024 10:30

We haven't bought one yet @Mepop because we couldn't agree on one. If we need something important printing we go to the shop along the road but it's a pain and you've reminded me I need to look into it again. Thank you for the reminder and for bumping this thread for hopefully more recommendations.
I was favouring the Epsom refillable but put off by comments on here as we won't be printing in colour weekly.

We won't be printing photos so don't need photo quality, but want to be able to switch between decent quality when we need it and basic quality when that will do.

Thanks

Never buy inkjets IMO.

I have a MFP Laserjet colour. That is a great all in one printer. But I do not print blocks of colour or have kids running riot with it. That could get expensive if you are doing that.

If you want high quality better to send off for prints.

If you are happy with black and white and very occasional use go for one of the cheap HP black and white lasers. I have one of these and fire it up once a year or so and it works fine (smells a bit on first use).
