Would you consider this a balanced load of washing?

It’s an 8kg capacity washing machine 1 double duvet cover
1 pillow case
1 bath towel (smaller size than a bath sheet)
3 pairs of pants.

i rang up to report a fault and was asked if I do balanced loads. Not really sure if the above is balanced or not. Thanks

SometimesItMightBeNice. Thanks for this. It was Beko I called. I didn’t phone AO where got it because there was a sticker inside the door rim giving a number to call for repairs both inside and outside warranty. That number was for Beko.

In that case, trying calling ao and give them the reference number that beko will have generated via your call. If they haven't given you one, ask! It might be worth a shot.

Roomination · 02/05/2024 18:25

I’ll do that thanks Sometimes I’ve bought a few things from AO over the last 2 years and I’ve been really impressed with their service. I’ve got a job number from Beko .

If its not spinning just pop it on a rinse and spin. Usually works

hedgehoglurker · 02/05/2024 18:26

What is the fault that you are reporting? I don't think you've said.

If the items are soaking wet and not spinning, yes, it is likely to be that your load isn't balanced. 1 light polycotton duvet cover and 1 soaking wet heavy towel (plus minor items) won't balance easily, especially as the duvet cover will tangle.

I suggest you save more items for the load, and put two towels (or more) together, without the duvet cover.

Icanseethebeach · 02/05/2024 18:28

I put 2 sets of double bedding in my 8kg washing machine. Bedding doesn’t weigh much.

Roomination · 02/05/2024 18:13

What is the fault?

The cotton cycle which should take 2.16 hours is going on between half an hour to 1.5 hours longer . I mainly use cotton or quick wash cycles. Quick one is ok but I don’t think it’s long enough for bedding and towels so I use the cotton.

I’ve got a beko, it’s been excellent. It has a daily wash of 28 minutes, which I use for coloured washing. I also use it for bedding and towels, but at a higher temperature, which adds about 20 minutes to the time. I use laundry disinfectant too, and everything comes out clean and fresh. I’ve never used any of the longer cycles, but would if I had heavily stained items. It’s also got a 14 minute extra quick wash which I use occasionally.

Roomination · 02/05/2024 18:48

Thanks Bignanna. I think the quick cycle on this one is 40 which is fine. It’s a lower spin though and I can’t increase the spin time on that cycle which is a pain.

hedgehoglover. The fault is the cycle is going anything from .5 to 1.5 hrs longer than it’s supposed to.

Yes definitely do that. The machine is less than a year old, as was mine, so you're entitled to resolution which isn't going to see you out of pocket. Give ao the reference and state that you'd like a new machine and as It's within a year, and do not want the engineer visit. Good luck let us know how you get on!

postitnot · 02/05/2024 19:12

We have a new washing machine and it's taken some 'bedding in' and keeps not spinning because it's unbalanced. It's slowly getting better, but I find if it's being fussy I pull everything out and put it back in and it seems to rebalanced something

It's too clever for it's own good

redbluegreenyellowbrown · 02/05/2024 19:21

I have a new washing machine and different programmes have different max weights up to 8kg.

I have also bought a luggage weighing scales and actually weigh my loads.

If less than 4kg i use a certain programme.

A big load is typically 5kg and i can do this on just 2 of the settings.

Over 5kg can also only be on 2 settings....... To me a FULL load where i can stuff no more is 6kg. I cant see how i could even get an 8kg load inside my washing machine that has an 8kg capacity.

Today a <5kg load was 2 single sets of bed linen, 2 bath towels, 1 bath mat, and a few other small bits and a dish cloth.

My other load which weighed spot on 5kg was a complete eqyptian cotton king size set of bed linen, several t shirts, 1 hoody jumper, 1 school shirt, 1 hair towel, 1 nightie, 3 bras and loads of socks and childrens knickers.

No where near the 8kg capacity of my machine....

YellowDaffodilRedTulip · 02/05/2024 19:23

Wow, I put in 2 double duvet covers, 2 sheets, 6-8pillow cases and usually 2 bath sheets.

I fill the drum up and never had any issues!

Caswallonthefox · 02/05/2024 19:54

I have more than you in a wash and I live on my own.
Make sure they check the lump of concrete.
I had my (reconditioned, rental) washing machine for a month and it was incredibly noisy when spinning, to the point where you had to shout to be heard. We got an engineer out when it started leaking across the floor.
When he tipped it on its side, the concrete block promptly fell out. He said in all the years he's been an engineer, that was a first for him.

Concerningquestion28 · 02/05/2024 20:00

Everyone knowing exact numbers of what goes in their washer and I'm just over here cramming fistfulls of my overflowing washing basket in till I can just move my hand in the top.

Balanced load? Fuck knows. Mines lasted 2 years so far and knows better than to whinge about Balanced loads 😂

Roomination · 02/05/2024 20:25

casswallonthefox. Just had a look. Taken out the concrete block now. I’d never have thought to check that 🤣🤣.

Mine washes bedding for one bed (duvet cover, two pillowcases and sheet) and two bath towels together without a problem. It's 7kg.

Talipesmum · 02/05/2024 20:35

I think the concrete block is supposed to stay in there

Wont that make it worse, you need the concrete dont you?

Cantfindansweronline · 02/05/2024 20:41

That sounds like half of one of my washes!

my old washing machine was a bloody nightmare, if your load wasn’t heavy enough or too heavy it’d refuse to spin! I’d often have to open the door with everything dripping wet and split the load for the rinse cycle or if I was only doing a light load I’d have to shove a bath towel in to make it heavier!

DrJonesIpresume · 02/05/2024 20:59

Your contract is with the seller not the manufacturer. So many retailers pull this stunt and tell their customers to go straight to the manufacturer.

Caswallonthefox · 02/05/2024 23:05

Um...
Don't take the concrete out!
It's there for the balance.
I'm kinda not believing this now.

CountingCrones · 02/05/2024 23:21

Nooooooo! Don’t that the block out!

Sometimes when installing a washing machine they forget to remove all the transit bolts holding the block in place. That can mean the machine lurches all over the place and doesn’t have a functioning suspension system.

It’s like driving with a parking brake on.

However, the concrete block is a counterweight and necessary for the operation of the machine.

Teacupsandrollups · 02/05/2024 23:44

Concrete block? 😬
Where?

Teacupsandrollups · 02/05/2024 23:45

Just googled 😁
Who knew?
