I am so shook up

Eight year daughter was using a float tonight in pool - I was poolside and blowing up armbands of five year old. Eight year is confident in water but misjudged the distance from side, let go of floatation aid and started to sink. I instantly dived in and got her and she was okay - a bit shook but happily playing with me and sibling after a cuddle. But I am so devastated. I think it’s also partly due to a recent divorce so of course I feel like the worst mum in the world. So glad my DD is okay but I am reflecting tonight after bed and v traumatised x

You sound like a total badass for noticing so quickly and jumping in to save her.

Your children are very lucky to have you.

It was a near miss, what you’re feeling is normal and it will pass. You’re supposed to be shaken up, it’s how adrenaline/the body work.

Just rest. Eat something sugary.

Thank you PP. Your advice was so helpful last night. I went to bed and tried to breathe through the panic. Near misses involving your children are so frightening but of course for a reason. Spoke with DD and reassured it that it was an accident and encouraged her so hoping she isn’t feeling any negative emotions. X

OP, you are a great mom!!! She wasn't there alone and unsupervised, and you were quick to act. Accidents do happen, but you were totally prepared for it!!!
