I'm about to go to pickle ball for the 1st time and I'm talking myself out if it.

I don't know anyone, I've never played before but I need a hobby, I want to connect with some new people.

A bath, pj's and Netflix are very tempting right now!

Everyone there will have been a first-timer once. Go for it. 🙂

NewName24 · 01/05/2024 19:12

No, don't pull out now.

Everyone feels nervous about walking in to a room or a group when you don't know anyone, but you've gone to the effort of finding out about it and signing up, so remember this is the hardest bit, and, within a minute or two you will be fine, and will have conquered your fear.

PS. What's Pickle Ball ?

MicrosuctionAgsin · 01/05/2024 19:16

They play pickle ball on the US Ghosts!

Go and have fun OP.

Sprig1 · 01/05/2024 19:16

I have no idea what it is but something called pickle ball must be fun. Go, go, go (and report back when you had a brilliant time).

Thehalls191 · 01/05/2024 19:20

Thanks everyone. I'm leaving now, deep breaths!!

(Pickleball is like a cross between ping pong, badminton and tennis, coming to a town near you soon!)

Not pickleball but 18 months I started walking netball knowing noone and have made some fantastic friends in this time
So go for it

NeverDropYourMooncup · 01/05/2024 19:23

Tennis without the ridiculous expense or risk to windows AND no giant blokes slaughtering you with power serves? Sounds perfect for a social activity!

Hope you go and have an amazing time!

Thehalls191 · 01/05/2024 21:36

I'm back. It was great fun! I've found my hobby!

Everyone was very nice and I was paired with some other newbies so we were all as awful as each other.

Thanks for the encouragement.

Stepping into the first night of a new hobby can certainly stir up some nerves, but it's also a wonderful moment filled with potential and excitement. This is more than just trying something new; it’s about opening yourself up to new experiences and opportunities for growth and enjoyment.

Remember, everyone starts somewhere, and it’s perfectly fine to be a beginner. In fact, there’s something truly special about the initial stages of learning—when everything is fresh and all possibilities are open. Embrace your beginner’s mindset: ask questions, be curious, and allow yourself the space to grow. Mistakes? They’re just stepping stones on the path to proficiency.

Consider this: each person you’ll meet in this new hobby was once exactly where you are now—nervous, uncertain, but ready to try something new. They can be your allies and guides. Don’t hesitate to lean on them for support or advice. Sharing your thoughts and vulnerabilities can help build connections and ease your concerns.

Visualise your success in this new endeavour. Imagine yourself fully engaged, laughing, learning, and contributing. Positive visualisation can be a powerful tool to transform anxiety into excitement. Let that excitement propel you forward into this new adventure.

Tonight is not just another evening; it’s the beginning of something great. You have the courage to step out of your comfort zone, and that alone is a huge accomplishment. Be proud of taking this step. This new hobby could become a cherished part of your life, bringing new friends, new joys, and new skills.

So, take a deep breath. You are about to embark on a wonderful journey. Walk in there with your head held high, ready to embrace whatever comes your way with a spirit of enthusiasm and openness. Here’s to new beginnings and the thrilling experiences ahead! You’ve got this, and I’m sure you’ll do wonderfully. Enjoy every moment of your first night.

You are welcome.

Is this Padel?

I don't know what Padel is, I don't even really know what pickleball is yet! It was good fun though, not much running around which I liked.

Well done for stepping out of your comfort zone and trying something new.

I’m glad you had a good time. I’m only slightly disappointed that Pickle Ball isn’t a Jane Austen style ball where everyone samples pickles.

This is going on my list of things to do if I win the Lottery. Create Austenian Pickle Ball.

Well done on going tonight @Thehalls191 !
