what would you do with these teeth?

as is usual, i kept both of my childrens 1st baby teeth... BUT, it didn't stop there, for some reason, known to god knows who, i kept ALL of the baby teeth BOTH of my children lost!

now, my oldest is 26.. i have these teeth... its turned into a bit of a joke and it really is time to let these go...

but how?

i can't throw them away.. it would be like discarding a part of my children? the only solution i have come up with, is when i pass, these teeth are cremated with me.. which means these teeth will hang around my house hopefully for another 30 years.

any ideas?

Have them made into a lovely necklace? (Joking, obviously!)

marzipanlover81 · 01/05/2024 15:02

good heavens i really wouldn’t like to see that box of teeth!

Binned all my children’s aside from their first (actually it was second with son because he lost his before he got it home!)

I think that sounds like extra hassle for loved ones once i’m gone, and i want to avoid that. So i would bin

I have the same, and facing a similar dilemma. Kids don’t want them - in fact think I am a bit gruesome for keeping them (plus curl from first hair cut and eldest’s umbilical cord…I drew a line at first nail clippings!)! I wondered about burying them somewhere we have good memories; might be useful for me too, to recognise they are all grown up now!

How about potting up or planting out a flower or plant that you love, and mixing in the teeth with the soil?

see this is the thing... i can't bring myself to just 'bin' them!

Whenever I sort stuff out I find a tooth! Old purse or jewellery box. And notes for the tooth fairy too! One dd expected a note back. Have kept them also. I'm my best left handed writing to fool her!
You know we advocate for honesty yet fill them with tricks!!

MIL returned DHs baby teeth to him recently in a little box. It was grim and hilarious. I think (hope) we threw them out. Clearly she felt she couldn't. Maybe bury them if you want a more sentimental solution than an unceremoniously binning.

gamerchick · 01/05/2024 15:10

You can get them put into teddies I think. Unless I dreamed it.

LauderSyme · 01/05/2024 15:11

I have (too much) hair from tiny ds. Ooh it was so goldeny blond and fine and lovely. I've got it in a small plastic bag inside an envelope and ds will have to throw it out when I go. Which I have no doubt he will do without a second's hesitation.

i have asked my children if they want them, and they pulled a face and said no! they are currently in a bag in an envelope in my 'funeral' file.. along with my funeral plan!

If you can't bin them, just put them in a small box and put them in a drawer. They are not a problem worth giving headspace to, IMO, as they are so small.

LauderSyme · 01/05/2024 15:14

They just need to stay in your funeral pile I think. Like my ds's hair it's not as if they're taking up much room 😉

you see if i did this then i could never move or i would feel like abandoning my children?

trust me i've had years and years to think up excuses... i just need a really good idea of what to do with them!

their dad (my ex) passed away last year... i even considered popping them in his casket!! can you imagine???

God knows what my parents plan to do with ours. I'm 38 and they've still kept mine and my siblings baby teeth in an ornament in the living room cabinet (you can't see the teeth unless you properly look in rhe cabinet tho lol)

i am actually quite pleased that this appears to be a 'normal' thing! at one point i thought i had gone crazy

Can I gently ask why you view them so strongly as "part of your children"?

They are a waste product, no longer required, replaced with something else.

I find it unfathomable if I'm being completely honest. Just binned all of mine (but carefully so they didn't find them and rumble the tooth fairy)

Hyperion100 · 01/05/2024 15:21

Bury them where someone will likely find them...then keep an eye on the local news.

marzipanlover81 · 01/05/2024 15:22

the idea of having to ask my children to deal with this following my death… no chance

I also have all their teeth and their umbilical cords complete with clips.

Thinking of using the teeth to replace these ones that have been lost 😆

i can't explain it! it just feels wrong to just chuck them in the bin.. i know i should have disposed of them years ago, but here we are!

But if you pot them up in a smallish pot you could take them with you?

Make the plant something bonsai then it won't need repotting very often and won't get too big and heavy to move. (My dad called bonsais 'plant torture' though, so maybe don't do this if you also feel that way.)

I kept my ds's teeth for quite a few years but there came a point I got grossed out with them and thought 'enough' and binned them.
