Buying first ever carpet - what colour??

It's a bloody minefield.

It's for the stairs and top landing. Very small area with little natural light so quite dark.

After several months of testers and changing of minds we're finally going with this paint:

We will be having 1 wall papered in the downstairs hall that will be oak floored. The woodwork will be white.

It will need to be quite hard wearing for stairs, plus we have kids and a cat so I'd like it to hide marks/fluff etc as much as possible.

Where do I begin?? I went into a carpet shop yesterday and they all looked the same with only slight variations on the tones!

Well do you want a pattern or stripes? Can be more forgiving to stains i think. Also buy the most expensive you can possibly afford. I did 20 that years ago, and it still looks good.

Remember that you will change the paint colour more often than the carpet
