Hiring a cottage and having a big multi generational family holiday for DDads milestone birthday in August.

We’ll be there over his actual birthday and I was wondering if there was a bakery that might do a celebration cake? I’ve done a little googling but can’t find anything.

Are big decorated birthday cakes even a thing in France? Would I be able to get a perfectly nice gateaux off the shelf at a local place or even Carrefours and whack a topper on it?

Any help very much appreciated.

There were gorgeous decorated cakes in Leclerc when we were there last year.

Brilliant thank you! I wasn’t sure if it was as much of a ‘thing’ in France. I know they have beautiful patisseries but I’ve only seen cake by the slice in them.

You can also order a full cake from a patisserie in advance

You can order a cake at a pâtisserie or big supermarket such as Leclerc, and ask to have a personalised plaque or message.

I forgot to say you can also specify how many people it is for. There are lots of really delicious and pretty cakes, for instance a tarte aux fraises in the summer!
