Progesterone tablets questions

I've been on HRT since last Sept for peri symptoms. (44 periods were normal but had other symptoms).

At first I took progesterone orally - 2 tablets 14 days on 14 days off. (alongside oestrogen gel). However I had terrible lows, and crashing moments of utter bleak despair. 😖

GP suggested I try using it in pessary form, and Ive started doing that for one month now. I wondered if anyone else had made this change and if I could ask about your experiences?

Specifically:

  • GP said I could take 1 tablet or "ideally 2 at a time". (the original oral dose was 2 tablets at a time). I regret I didn't ask more questions about this but dos anyone know why that's the case? Why can I halve the dose when taken as a pessary? I'm keen to halve it so long as it is still safe, as I am 100% sure it was the progesterone which caused the feelings of despair.
  • How best to manage this in terms of timings? I am trying to rekindle the conjugal aspect to my marriage let's just say and I'm not sure how to fit that around taking the tablets. I was taking them before bed but this doesn't really work if DTD is on the cards?
  • Did changing to pessary reduce your feelings of despair and how long until you noticed a change?

I've only had 1 day of utter despair this month, and before it was 3 or 4 so I'm hoping that means progress...

Would be grateful to hear about other's experiences.

Sorry no experience with pessary but having had similar symptoms to you I now take progesterone continuously and feel much better . ( I was still having periods before starting HRT. )
Are you on 200mg? Isn't that double the recommended dose?

I use a high strength HRT patch (100mcg) so it's advised to use a higher dose of progesterone with this. I take 2 each evening. I felt really depressed when I take 2 orally so I changed to taking 1 orally and 1 vaginally and feel better.
I think you'll need to get in touch with your GP to clarify your dose.
If you are doing anything in bed with your DH would you not go to the loo afterwards? I always do and it's at this point I'd insert one vaginally. I suppose you would need to know sex was maybe going to happen though so you can hold off inserting a tablet.

Hi, I use evorel 50 patches and 100mg progesterone tablets which I’m meant to take days 1-25 of my cycle. I got all messed up with this and didn’t take for a while and felt completely fine. I’ve taken the progesterone now for the last ten days and feel anxious and quite low. I’ve called the dr for an appt but hoping someone on here may have some advice as to what may be wrong. I’d rather it take the progesterone at all if I’m going to feel down ( but I know I have to)
