I have namechanged to post this in the help I will gather some more info which will help me with the dispute I am currently in with JL.

In Jan 23 we bought a grand size John Lewis draper sofa

linked here, in case you're curious!:

www.johnlewis.com/john-lewis-draper-ii-grand-4-seater-sofa/p111691886s_ppc=2dx_mixed_home_BAU&tmad=c&tmcampid=2&gad_source=1&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIn9Tzwo_qhQMVxxmiAx3Suw1vEAQYASABEgJ6sfD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds

it was delivered in Feb 23 and from the off I was having problems with the base cushion. It was just too small! After a few months, I thought it was ridiculous so went back to JL and they agreed finally to get the supplier to make a new base cushion that was delivered last week. This is what it looks like when on the sofa.

The suppliers are trying to tell me that they have to make them a bit short so that they settle and expand. When I pull the base cushion more centrally, the gap is not as big, but then as soon as someone sits on one end, the cushion shifts, and its uncomfortable for anyone that wants to sit at the other side!)

I have never in my life had any gap on any base cushion with any sofa I have owned. Even my DFS sofa cushion is nice and wedged in.

Reading the reviews online, it seems most people buy the 3 seater, and aren't having these problems. In fact, my friend just bought one and she says the base cushion doesn't move at all it's nice and wedged in.

I am wondering if anyone else has had any problems with this size sofa, and what I can do about it. This is the second cushion that has done this. One of the reasons I liked this sofa was because it was one log base cushion and not individual squares where the remotes gets lost down each crack!

Thanks for all your replies. To be fair to John Lewis, they are not being difficult about it at all, but they are the go between between myself and the supplier atm.

What's ridiculous is that when we had the problem with the first cushion a furniture tech DID come out to see it and basically write in the report all was fine. I pushed back and ended up with a new cushion. This cushion!

What's interesting is that I've measured both, the sofa is the correct length (my thought as well is that they'd made it too long) and taken off the sofa, and on the floor, the base cushion is the same length. But when its actually ON the sofa, and people sit on it and it gets pushed snugly into one side, it opens a gap up of about 4 cm on one side!

What I'd really like to know is people with the 2 and 3 seaters, (@Annexlife ) if you remove the base cushion off the sofa, and put it on the floor and measure it, is it longer than the length of the sofa? to allow for the squish?

Not at all, the cushion was, on arrival the exact right size, and 5 years on, it's still the perfect length. No gaps at any point

Could you send them a video?

Show you measuring the sofa, then measuring the cushions, then show what happens when you sit on them and the gap that then appears

the odd thing is when I measure them, the cushion is the same length as the sofa! But once it’s on, there is a small gap each side and so it obviously moves to one side and then creating one large gap. I am going to see what they come back with and then ask if they can remake the cushion 4 cm longer. You should have to bang a base cushion when you put it on a sofa so it’s nice a snug…….

its why I was hoping someone with this size was about, as I don’t think this is an issue with the smaller sizes (looking at reviews)
