London mayor elections - who are you voting for

I've done a search but haven't seen anything posted recently.

I don't understand the hatred for Kahn. Around here facebook is full of people raging about him, but he's still ahead in the polls. So there are some who like him, but they aren't as vocal as the haters.

I've just spent a few minutes reading about Susan Hall 😦, surely she can't be the better candidate?

How on earth is London like a war zone????????

My son has seen someone walking through the train station with a machete and been threatened with a knife. A 15 year old was stabbed and died on her way to school last year. Plenty more knife incidents that don't make it to the news too.

That doesn't make the city a war zone though! You want to see one of those, go to Gaza.

So the areas that are diverse you consider a war zone? Yes, I can see why you might think shops that have Arabic writing means we are living in Gaza…

It’s the Tories that have cut funding for the police so badly that there are barely any left. That’s not Khan’s fault at all.

She's racist and a bit thick not great for a mayor.

Quite. We had enough of that with Boris.

You don't need to go to Gaza, hospital admissions for stab wounds are higher in Cleveland and the West Midlands. Murder rates are higher in Bedfordshire, Cleveland, Merseyside, West Mercia, South Yorkshire, Humberside and Northumbria.

In the capital, 14.9% of people experienced a crime either to their person or their household in the year ending September 2023, compared with 15.7% nationally.

So yes, we need more funding for the police - something that the Tories have taken away over the years. Same as everything else really.

urbanbuddha · 01/05/2024 08:33

And mental health services - another area decimated by the Tories

Radiatorvalves · 01/05/2024 08:42

Probably voting for Sadiq. Not perfect but Susan Hall is an atrocious candidate. I think DH is voting Binface. Considering the LibDem candidate too. He’s not overly convincing but Sadiq will walk it and I’m usually LibDem.

I’m sure someone else will pop by soon to blame that on Khan too.

Most people on this thread (and probably a majority of people on MN) don’t actually know any tradespeople as other than the hired help.
Everyone I know is desperate to seem him gone yesterday.

That's hilarious! Nice one. Do they pay you or is your work voluntary?

Sunshineandpinkclouds · 01/05/2024 09:26

In an ideal world I'd vote for Natalie Campbell as I saw her at a conference last year and she was very impressive. However, if voting for her effectively means I'm voting for Susan Hall to get in then it's going to have to be SK...aarggh, stuck between a rock and a hard place!

newfriend05 · 01/05/2024 12:27

@Starbugg you are not getting my point .. young man going around stabbing , walking around with knifes should not be a normal occurrence .. didn't you see the knife attack on day on a day time train .. it's got out of control.. people who live in inner London see this .. but of course most of MN as MC trying to find ways to not pay for child care and work out how to get under the 40% tax bracket .. so you go and walk down the roads I have mentioned and see how safe you feel ..

Do we though? Do the police prevent crime? Poverty seems to be biggest driver of crime.

Your hyperbole is so OTT. I know those areas you mentioned and I've lived in London for three decades and don't recognise any of them as being like an "out of control" war zone. Are you always this hysterical?

newfriend05 · 01/05/2024 13:32

@Bookworm1111 , I wouldn't call my post hysterical at all , what I would say it's from someone who has seen the impact of knife crime and violence on people that she has grown up with and their families... as a mayor for London I don't feel he's addressing the grass roots problem.. and putting money in the wrong places .... knowing the areas and living in the areas are two very different things

But you don't live in those areas that you're condemning as out of control either.

newfriend05 · 01/05/2024 13:49

I'm not stating exactly where I live , it could be outing but take my word these are all my local areas .and I see first hand Khans London .. and it's not good

Except these issues that you claimed are limited to diverse areas of London are prevalent throughout the UK. Blaming it on Khan when there are wider issues affecting the entire country demonstrates that you’re caught up in the noise that wants to blame Khan for everything.

He will be getting my vote tomorrow. And I hope he wins, more than anything so that the those who wouldn’t judge a white mayor as harshly as they have Khan can carry on stewing.

newfriend05 · 01/05/2024 14:19

@Starbugg your homing in on race ...where have I stated that anywhere ? These are my local areas so that's what I focusing on ...

LostittoBostik · 01/05/2024 14:22

Susan Hall has allowed her activists to call for violence against Khan, without taking action to stop that.

That alone should stop any voter considering her a genuine opponent in the race for mayor of our capital.

If you don't want to encourage a culture of political bullying and mob rule then just pick literally anyone else on the ballot.

LostittoBostik · 01/05/2024 14:24

Hyperion100 · 30/04/2024 12:24

Susan Hall comes across as a complete moron. I have no idea how she can be the best the tories can offer up.

x.com/LondonLabour/status/1784825526353350702

Because for some reason the conservatives - the actual government - have completely given up on our capital city.

It's all baffling, and a reason why they're about to be out of power for a long time.
