Just spotted some around my windows. I’m freaked out! How do I get rid of them? Are they quite difficult to rid? Please, give me some advice.

Are they bad? I haven’t, I did dog sit a few weeks back though. Have cleaned up, hoovered, washed bedding etc. since then though.

Have you had them?

its the larvae that eat the fabric. Move the adults outside and keep an eye open for the ‘hairy bear’ larvae. You can get sprays etc but I’ve seen loads in my house over the years and yet to discover any damage. Even if you treat your house they could just fly back in via an open window.

Are we talking about the teeny tiny harmless bugs that are brown and white? Because everyone has them. They eat little holes in clothes I think but I have never found them much of an issue.

I found them in my kids bedrooms in the loft converion - I bought a spray to kill them (off Amazon) that is non toxic to humans and pets. Will let you know if it works as I only used it last week!

This really isn't an OMG situation! Lots of homes have them and they come in from outside. It's only a problem if you get an infestation. Hoover regularly and if needed put down some diatmous earth

Thank you for this reassurance! They are tiny but bugs in general freak me out and I’ve hoovered each inch of my house this evening. I’ll look up the spray and diatmous earth - okay to go on fabric/carpets?

Oh please do. What’s the name of it?

Yes all fine for carpets etc. I've had them and no where near as bad as a moth invasion.

Bluestarling · 29/04/2024 21:47

Keep hoovering especially round carpet edges. They get a hold in areas that don't get disturbed very often like under furniture. But you can also get the odd one or two coming in from outside or on cut flowers.

If you keep seeing lots or notice carpet damage, consider a professional pest treatment.

Vacuum thoroughly, including furniture then spray with insecticide finally put down deterrent traps

@itsgivingmethecreeps
Did you get rid?
We have spotted a few the last few months, sprayed and deep hoovered, also steam cleaned a few fabric bits and I've just found another beetle in a different room, don't mind the beetles but the larvae really freak me out as we found larvae on our bed before

I haven’t seen any since a very deep clean. They seemed to only be on the windows, but I’ve had to hoover every day and wipe down constantly. Hopefully they’ve f’ed off now!

@itsgivingmethecreeps
Thanks for replying. They are bloody arseholes, I wouldn't be bothered if they didn't have larvae.
We did speak to a pest control guy when we spotted a few beetles and larvae in our bedroom and he said not to bother unless you saw a lot!

Old post but did any of you manage to find a solution as I spotted one on my mattress today and freaking out as the tops of my legs are full of spots which I put the blame of being in a grassy area last weekend
