Is it worth paying GP £50 for a letter for PIP claim?

I'm on ESA support group.
My medical record is anxiety and depression but I have much more going on.
I have intrusive thoughts constantly which I've had CBT therapy for, but I think I have OCD. I'll think things like 'if I don't get across the road before this red car passes by someone I know is going to die'
I don't leave the house alone. Ever.
I cnat go anywhere without someone for support etc.

I went and spoke to the GP today. I said I think I have OCD and agoraphobia.

I've looked at my records and he's not put anything about that on my records.

If I pay for a letter will they just write what's already there or can I talk to them about it, what I feel I need saying on there because it's all about how it affects my life and he didn't relalt write any of that down.

I've been on anti depressants for 14 years. Max dose citalopram. Propranolol for panic attacks.

I suspect he is likely to base the letter on your records unless he knows you well. I would just send a print out of your records and meds. Explain the therapy you've had. Point out you are Support Group. Detail your problems with respect to each activity. Take it to tribunal if DWP initially say no.

You can ask him for a print out of your records anyway and I don't think they charge for that.

I submitted that.

Some mh stuff GP's can diagnose and some they can't. It's possible you'd need to see a specialist?

A list of medications from the GP might help to show depression and or anxiety. But a GP can’t diagnose the other conditions you mentioned. Have you been referred to a psychologist service? Or Are you under the care of a psychologist or counsellor now?

The pip form says do not pay your GP for a letter on the first page

You give then your Dr's details and they would be able to contact them

I'm not under anyone.

Part of the problem is my social anxiety. To even go to an appointment takes it out of me so I just don't bother but I just can't cope financially anymore.

And seeing all this about PIP being taken away made me think I need to apply now.

OK. I will cancel the letter.

Thankyou.

You're welcome. I'm really sorry you're suffering

You need evidence, though, as much as possible.

KatyMac · 29/04/2024 17:46

I went throught my nhs app screenshotting any relevant aappointments or medications as evidence

Kitkat1523 · 29/04/2024 17:48

A letter saying the gp was told by you that you think you have agoraphobia and ocd ….is absolutely not evidence for PIP …..what are your diagnoses ? What is your medication…..can you print these out……what therapies have you engaged with ….have you got letters for these…..and then I would just concentrate on filling out the PIP form itself and being as thorough as possible with this

I've said all of them in the post.

I don't think I have letters. I don't keep letters but I may have emails.
