I have turned into the very hungry caterpilllar… w.t.f.?

So I’ve been trying to eat more healthily… exercising more etc. I’m not massively overweight but I could do with losing around a stone so my clothes fit better (they are mysteriously shrinking).

i did pretty well last week. Normal evening meals then for example, an apple and a yoghurt for lunch on Saturday, egg and toast for lunch Sunday.

Today I’m working at home and family is all out. I am bloody ravenous. W.t.f. Is happening to me? So far todayI have eaten:

porridge and coffee
tuna and watercress sandwich
greek yoghurt with dried dates
half an ester egg (it started to go epically wrong here…)
scampi fries
salt and vinegar chickpeas
egg butty
cheese string
apple

and I’m still hungry. Maybe I’m shortly going to turn into a beautiful butterfly (more likely a plump middle aged lady).

Why am I ravenous suddenly? And has anyone else had an epic fail day like this? Does it stop?

have you had a quiet day at work? bored?

neverknowinglyunreasonable · 29/04/2024 15:45

It does stop but what happens next is going to be a real rollercoaster....

have you a history of binge eating?

Have you managed to get outside at all today?

😂 I have days like this.

Tomorrow, start again.

Your day was fine until the Easter egg. I find when I have something sweet like chocolate then it makes me crave other lunch food.

Drink a lot of water and have more fibre in your meals.
For example, your porridge might not be enough amount of oats or maybe add some fruit with it or a boiled egg on the side.
Instead of a sandwich make it into a salad and instead of the sandwich's 2 slices of bread just have one slice of bread on the side with it.
You are having more of the sandwich filling and adding more green vegetables for it. If you would rather keep it to something easy at work etc then choose a high protein wrap and fill it with lean protein like chicken or tuna.
Don't buy snacky food and try eating 3 solid meals by solid I mean high protein, good fats, high fibre.
The chocolate, crisps and flavoured chickpea snacks then apple and cheese string you could have had a chicken breast with caulfilower rice and salad. If you want a treat plan it and look forward to it so you eat it mindfully.

ARe you on your period?

Honestly doesn't sound like you are eating enough - "an apple and a yoghurt for lunch on Saturday, egg and toast for lunch Sunday" - would leave me peckish and snacking.

more protein in your main meal. Stop snacking on crap. (I've managed not to snack on crap since Christmas and the weight is coming off slowly).

purplehue · 29/04/2024 15:49

Drink a glass of water everytime you feel hungry when you know you shouldn't be. If you're still hungry 10 mins after the water then eat something like an apple with peanut butter.

BarrelOfOtters · 29/04/2024 15:50

And yes, tomorrow is another day.

Rearised · 29/04/2024 15:52

You might find logging your food or taking a picture and telling your brain you can't be hungry now and to just drink water everytime your little voice nags you like an annoying bored kid... you need to be like a stern mother with yourself to discipline yourself, let yourself feel hungry, let yourself be sad and bored. You have to comfort yourself other ways like going to bed or doing something constructive until it's time to eat again.

SpaSpa · 29/04/2024 15:53

Are you actually just thirsty and just because it’s one bad day it doesn’t mean tomorrow will be?

BananaLlamaFarmer · 29/04/2024 15:55

Yep, I think a lot of it is sitting in one place working all day. When I’m out at weekends I’m too busy to think about being hungry…

I can work whilst snacking (I don’t need to speak to clients or anything) so that’s what is happening.

Probably thirsty too, good point!

Oh yeah, and hormones may be to blame too- I’m of a certain age.

Two things make me like this - taking antihistamines eg loratadine or cetirizine and when I'm hormonal.

BananaLlamaFarmer · 29/04/2024 16:06

DoctorMartin- great minds think alike. I had loratadine this morning 😂

but a lot has involved cooking!

get your jacket and head out for a walk

soup for dinner with some berries afterwards

Darklane · 29/04/2024 17:12

Chew sugar free gum whenever hunger strikes between meals
