i Love most of the old black and white silent films just watched Charlie Chaplin in the circus absolute comic genius his timing is perfect, laughed through most of the film and when you think there was no CGi like todays films they have certainly stood the test of time

He was a Nazi sympathiser who was particularly cruel to his barely 16 year old wife (him being 20 years her senior). The divorce papers cite 'cruel and inhumane treatment'.

Who the hell told you that! Total rubbish.

He was known in the US for his left-wing sympathies. Walter Winchell, a prominent radio presenter in the 1930s called him "Joe Stalin's favourite funny man". His send up of Hitler in "The Great Dictator" got his films banned in Nazi Germany and Chaplin himself put on the Nazi death list.

Also "cruel and inhumae treatment" was a standard reason for getting a divorce in the USA at that time where there was no adultery or desertion involved.

like many stars of the era there was a lot of things that were hidden from the public but whether he was a good man in real life or not he was still a comic genius this post wasnt about him as a person but to acknowledge his film comedic genius and todays so called celebrities dont hold a candle to the stars of the early film days

Yes this, I have seen the documentary but I can't get past this.

No ‘Nazi sympathiser’ would have made The Great Dictator! He certainly had an appalling marital record.
