Anyone had problems after wisdom tooth extraction? And what happened?

I’m just over a week post extraction, it was tricky as there was an extra root, which the surgeon couldn’t extract in the end so stitched it up as was.

Assume there’s been some nerve damage / bruising as I haven’t regained feeling in most of my tongue or lower left side (but getting some zapping and burning sensation), I can’t open my mouth properly, or chew. The pain in my jaw is waking me up in the night. It’s making me utterly miserable - I thought it would all be fine after a couple of days. Have had some big surgery recently, including a prolapse repair, and honestly this is worse 😭

has anyone experienced similar, if so how long before you got some semblance of normal function?! I don’t think there’s an infection, though my face is still swollen and tender.

That sounds miserable. I had both top sides removed with a GA a few years back, both cheeks swelled up like a chipmunk (all the wrinkles went though) and I remember being very sore and pathetic for a week. Do you think the shooting pains mean that you're getting the feeling back? That's often how temporary nerve damage shows recovery. I hope you soon feel better x

Thank you @Lifestooshort71 - from looking online the nerve issues do improve so glad to know you took a week or so. Plus you had a GA to contend with.

Have you been back in touch with the surgery? If you have a dry socket they can dress it for you. What painkillers are you taking? You can take paracetamol and ibuprofen together

Go back to the dentist - one of mine had to be dressed with cloves. And definitely combine ibuprofen and paracetamol. It could be infected. Really sympathise it can be unbearably painful.

Thanks so much both - will call the hospital today and see if I can chat with a nurse or one of the doctors.
I can’t take ibuprofen unfortunately, but have been taking cocodamol.
