Pokemon trading cards - can anyone give me a quick summary?

Morning. Can anyone give me a quick rundown of how the PTC game works, in respect of buying extra cards? DC was given the Battle Academy for Christmas and has announced with days to go that he'd like some more cards for his birthday. I've gleaned that the Battle Academy came with 3 decks of 60 cards, and each deck is made up of cards of the same "type" (e.g. fire, electricity, darkeness, etc).

I've been looking at buying extra cards, but all the ones I've seen tend to be like this amazon link where it's a random selection of cards from different "types".

Is there any way of buying a complete deck so that he can use it in the battle academy? Or is that how you get suckered into spending £££ on hundreds of cards? 😆

i believe you should be able to just buy more cards of any type and they will slot in with the game.
if you want to get more of the specific game cards like energy boosts etc then buy one of the big trainer packs. (£50

Do you have a gaming shop/cafe near where you live?
Geek Retreat is a franchise one which has many branches and there's loads of independent ones all over

I've been a Pokémon fan for 25 years or so - I have never understood the actual card game 😂

You need a "battle deck" - you can buy them in Asda etc for £10 to £15. That's if he is actually using them for fighting - a lot of the time they just like collecting cool cards, in which case the newest booster packs are Temporal Forces.

Oooh that may not be a bad shout, actually. There's a games shop in town that sells them - not sure if they're open on a sunday though. Off to check!

The shop's not open today so I've ordered a deck from the site @dementedpixie linked to. Thanks everyone for your help and explanations! I now know more about Pokemon than I did when I woke up this morning!
