green mile

NigelHarmansNewWife · 28/04/2024 07:04

Terms of Endearment
Gregory's Girl
Chariots of Fire

MariaVT65 · 28/04/2024 07:14

I’ll say:

Mary Poppins
Sound of Music
Anything Quentin Tarantino

Life is short and often hard, so I’ve stopped using my free time to watch depressing films.

The Pianist has come up a few times on this thread but i’d actively tell people not to bother. I saw it in the cinema and that wheelchair balcony scene has stayed with me.

GoingUpUpUp · 28/04/2024 07:33

The departed
usual suspects
little miss sunshine

@MariaVT65 I feel the same. I know I should watch schindlers list or the pianist but I know it’ll be sad. Same with supposedly fluffier ones like one day or the notebook

Vettrianofan · 28/04/2024 07:37

The Godfather

Vettrianofan · 28/04/2024 07:40

The Good The Bad The Ugly.

Fistful of Dollars.

Vettrianofan · 28/04/2024 07:40

Last of the Mohicans.

mrsbyers · 28/04/2024 07:47

Tampopo
Truly Madly Deeply
About Lastnight
Bridges of Madison County
Pulp Fiction

5 of my faves anyway

Riapia · 28/04/2024 07:54

Also, For Sama (this is a HARD watch)

Oh god I remember watching For Sama

Absolutely brilliant film. So affecting

I Love Pan's Labyrinth

purpleme12 · 28/04/2024 09:19

I Love Pan's Labyrinth

So do I. So amazingly beautiful but brutal at the same time

purpleme12 · 28/04/2024 09:21

This is England is amazing film.

But unusually, all the series following on from it are just as good I think

Monkeytapper · 28/04/2024 11:54

Monkeytapper · 28/04/2024 11:54

I, Daniel Blake

Yes. Tory arse lickers should be made to watch this

BlackCat007 · 28/04/2024 12:01

Anne of the Thousand Days

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 28/04/2024 12:06

Ditto to Gaslight, whoever said it.

Whistle Down The Wind (brilliant old B&W with child Hayley Mills)

And for anyone needing a laugh, Blithe Spirit - the original with Rex Harrison and Margaret Rutherford as the medium.

Goodbye Mr Chips (the old B&W but I thought the remake with Martin Clunes was also excellent).

(I can no longer watch anything very violent, sadistic or depressing).

Tyiue · 28/04/2024 12:15

The Thornbirds

Pieceofpurplesky · 28/04/2024 13:09

Soubriquet · 28/04/2024 13:39

Green Street

Now I hate football. Always have. It’s not my thing but I do think this is a film worth watching as it really shows the violence that can occur during something stupid as football.

OP posts:
BlackCat007 · 28/04/2024 13:54

i love football but what put me off this film was an American actor cast in the lead role…

Soubriquet · 28/04/2024 14:49

True but I suppose it could be a shock for an American when the British know a lot about the hooliganism

OP posts:
Soubriquet · 28/04/2024 15:04

Titanic! Yes it’s cheesy but it’s also very heartbreaking
