Help me choose between Ulike and Braun IPL

Does anyone have any experience with either of these IPL devices?

The Ulike sounds fabulous but every review/article I find on it seems to be sponsored and it's all over social media which puts me off a bit. It seems to be "better" than others but does that mean it's not as safe? I would be looking to buy the air 10 version.

The Braun is more expensive but is a more well known brand. My only reservation about this one is I don't think you can change the intensity manually, you just have to trust the skin sensor. Does anyone with a pro 5 know if this is correct?

I have ruled out the Philips lumea because of its flash speed. All the reviews say it's so much slower than the Braun and I don't really like the bulky design.

Please help me choose one, I've read so much about them I am driving myself crazy!

Hi. I am also struggling to choose between Ulike and Braun. Have you made your choice? Any suggestions?

Aaaaaaaaaaaaargh · 24/05/2024 01:32

I went for the lumea, which I know doesn't help, but I had narrowed it down to the Braun and Lumea. I'm just not sure how much I trust the Ulike.

It was the fact that you couldn't change the intensity that made me not go for the Braun in the end.

Between Braun and Lumea, I like Braun more because they say the pulses are faster. About the Ulike, I really like this cooling system and having kind of double shots in each pulse but I am not sure about the brand.

Now that you got Lumea, how is it going? I don't know if you have dark or light hair but I want to know with max power on very thick hair how much do you feel it?

Lumea is brilliant!

Notellinganyone · 24/05/2024 08:12

Also if you buy directly from Phillips you can buy the Lumea in instalments. If you don’t like it or it doesn’t work for you you can send it back. Essentially you rent it monthlong until you get to the point where you have paid for it.

I ended up buying the Braun because it's a better known brand. I love it, it's so quick to use and seems to have really made a big difference to my legs and bikini line after only 3 uses.

I got one from amazon for £40 in sale and it's amazing.

Gone from full bush to few scraggler hairs.

MokaEfti · 25/05/2024 08:49

Bought lumea several years back now - it's still going strong but hardly use it because it did its job so well!

Which one was that?

I've only done the skin test so far. Will do my 1st treatment tonight.

I'm white and pale with dark brown hair. At level 4 on my legs it felt slightly warm. 3 on my bikini line and underarms felt warm. Both these areas are dark, thick hair and also my skin is darker there. I could have gone higher but I was nervous. It didn't hurt at all. Just felt a warmth.

Lindy2 · 26/05/2024 19:14

I have the Braun one. I've had it a few years now.

It's very good. I'm basically hair free now but every couple of weeks I do a quick once over to stop any hairs making a break through. It's mostly my knees that have the most persistent ones!

Braun selects the right intensity but for my skin type it always goes for full strength. I've never had any issues with the strength or pulse speed. It's been a great purchase for me.

It's normal to feel a bit of heat. If you're doing an area that is a bit sensitive to the heat you can always turn off the machine for 5 minutes so it cools down.

I quite like the warm feeling.

Aaaaaaaaaaaaargh · 26/05/2024 22:46

@Lindy2 I'm just being a big baby. The heat was fine and just a little warmth, nothing else, but reading the safety manual has scared the crap out of me 😂

So, I did my first treatment this evening. Legs on 5 six was fine. Bikini line it recommended 4 but it was stinging so I turned it down to 3. same for under arms. My right arm pit is a bit sore now so I'll go down to 2 on that next time (it has darker patches than my left)

Miaferretti · 18/12/2024 20:36

I was looking at the Ulike, but I didn’t want to spend that much money. So, I bought the Monsia silk series pro, which has pretty much the same features. Not sure if that helps, but it might be worth checking out.
